Job Description
Tessera, a national non-profit and government contractor dedicated to "Creating Opportunities for People with Disabilities," is seeking a motivated and hard-working Custodian to join their team at Fairchild Air Force Base in Airway Heights, Washington. Tessera takes pride in its mission-focused culture and core values of Inclusion, Partnerships, Integrity, Diversity, Commitment, and Quality. They are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and supportive work environment for all employees, including individuals with disabilities and veterans. Tessera offers a comprehensive compensation package that reflects its dedication to its workforce, including medical, dental, vision benefits, and retirement plans, as well as various support programs such as tuition assistance and professional development.
The Custodian role at Tessera involves essential cleaning and maintenance duties at Fairchild AFB and surrounding areas. This full-time, non-exempt position works Monday through Friday with occasional weekend shifts, during early or mid-day times, requiring effective time management and adaptability in schedules. Compensation is set at $18.11 per hour, with the position including driving responsibilities, which require a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain insurance coverage.
As a Custodian, the selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and safety standards in a variety of facility locations including offices, restrooms, hallways, stairwells, and common areas. This position demands the application of strict safety protocols to ensure a healthy workplace environment and effective communication with customers, coworkers, and site personnel. Regular tasks include cleaning and sanitizing restroom facilities, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash and recycling removal, restocking supplies, and operating cleaning equipment according to contract and safety standards.
The job also involves maintaining janitorial equipment and lockers, adhering to EM 385-1-1 safety requirements, and guaranteeing the security of facilities by locking doors after completing cleaning tasks. Proper handling of cleaning supplies and following anti-contamination procedures are key components of the role. Tessera emphasizes the importance of physical endurance in this position due to the physical demands such as lifting up to 45 pounds, prolonged standing or walking, repetitive motions, kneeling, climbing stairs, and performing work under pressure.
Applicants must have at least a high school diploma or GED, with 0 to 3 years of prior custodian or janitorial experience preferred though education and experience combinations are considered. A valid driver's license compliant with federal installation access requirements, including REAL ID standards or acceptable alternatives (such as a U.S. passport or military ID), is mandatory. Additionally, candidates must be able to obtain and maintain the relevant security clearances and installation access to work on a federal military installation, with background checks and E-Verify participation as part of the hiring process.
Tessera offers a range of benefits for full-time custodians including medical, dental, vision coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, life and short-term disability insurance, health and welfare cash payouts, flexible spending accounts, paid federal holidays, vacation and sick leave accruals, potential shared earning bonuses, tuition assistance, scholarships for dependents, professional development opportunities, wireless discounts, employee assistance programs, wellness initiatives, and eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Tessera’s holistic approach to employee welfare and development makes it an excellent choice for individuals seeking stability, growth, and a mission-driven workplace.
Tessera is an equal opportunity employer encouraging individuals with disabilities to apply and provides accessible hiring processes with accommodations available upon request. To apply, candidates can visit Tessera’s website and complete the application, or current employees may use the internal Workday Jobs Hub as advised by their recruiters. Tessera complies with Spokane County's Ban the Address Ordinance, allowing privacy in application submissions. This employment opportunity embodies Tessera’s commitment to inclusivity, quality service, and community engagement.
