Your responsibilities as a Custodian will include routine cleaning tasks such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and disinfecting classrooms, restrooms, kitchens, cafeterias, and common areas according to established protocols. You'll also assist with field preparation for athletic events and participate in exterior maintenance activities like sweeping, pressure washing, and trash removal. During winter months, duties expand to include shoveling, plowing, and applying salt to walkways, play areas, and steps to maintain safety. You will be responsible for operating custodial equipment like floor scrubbers and carpet shampoo machines, performing minor repairs such as changing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and air filters, and ensuring all custodial supplies are well-maintained and stocked.
In addition to day-to-day cleaning, Custodians at TESD are entrusted with securing buildings by opening and closing facilities for their shifts, monitoring safety concerns, and reporting any property damage promptly to supervisors. The role also requires adherence to safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment. A valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and the ability to climb ladders are mandatory for this position. Health certifications, including a TB test and background checks, are required to ensure a safe environment for the school community.

Job Requirements
- Must demonstrate aptitude and physical ability for assigned responsibilities
- Must be of good moral character and effective communicator
- Operates floor scrubbers, wet/dry pick up, and carpet shampoo machines
- Must be physically able to shovel, plow and/or salt walks, play areas and steps
- Will move supplies, furniture, or equipment within buildings as directed
- Must be able to climb a ladder
- Must possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
- Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician including TB test
- Required to complete applicable background checks
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferably 2 years of custodian experience
- Ability to operate floor scrubbers, wet/dry pick up, and carpet shampoo machines
- Capability to perform minor repairs such as changing light bulbs and ceiling tiles
- Effective communication skills
- Physical ability to shovel, plow and/or salt walks and steps
- Ability to climb ladders
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
- Certification of good health including TB test
- Able to comply with background check requirements
Job Duties
- Performs general custodial duties such as dusting, mopping, and vacuuming
- Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies
- Assists with field preparation for various athletic events
- Empties trash receptacles and restocks paper and soap supplies
- Shovels, plows, and/or salts walks, play areas and steps as appropriate
- Cleans classrooms, restrooms, kitchens, and cafeterias according to standard operating procedures
- Cleans corridors after school each day and as needed during the day
- Cleans and disinfects bathroom floors and sanitary fixtures daily
- Washes all windows on both inside and outside at least once a year
- Keeps grounds free from rubbish and safe
- Maintains all floors in a clean and attractive condition
- Cleans desktops and whiteboards
- Performs general exterior maintenance such as sweeping, pressure washing and trash pickup
- Reports major repairs and safety concerns promptly
- Reports any damage to school property immediately
- Remains on school premises during assigned work hours
- Responsible for opening and closing building each shift, securing doors and windows and turning off lights
- Moves supplies, furniture or equipment as required
- Complies with local laws for storage and disposal of waste
- Assists organizations using school facilities
- Follows all safety procedures including use of safety glasses, gloves, and boots
- May perform crossing guard duties as needed
- Responsible for minor repairs including changing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and air filters
- Performs any other assigned work
