The Custodian position within the Facility Custodial Department is integral in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene across various campus buildings and immediate exterior areas. This role requires routine manual work involving housekeeping and cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, polishing, and dusting furniture. Custodians also clean restrooms, windows, blinds, mirrors, and other surfaces to ensure a sanitary and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The position supports the overall campus maintenance by contributing to a safe and orderly environment.

The work schedule varies with shifts potentially from early morning to late evening across weekdays, specifically Monday to Friday with shift options from 4:00 am to 12:30 pm, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, or 3:30 pm to 12:00 am. This position is hourly, with pay ranging typically from $15.00 to $17.26 per hour depending on experience and job grade. The role demands physical capability such as climbing stairs and ladders, reaching and lifting above the head, and standing or walking for extended durations. Furthermore, custodians are expected to operate job-related machinery, handling various tools, equipment, and chemical supplies safely and efficiently. Candidates must be able to comprehend and follow both verbal and written instructions accurately to meet cleaning standards and protocols.

The hiring process includes a post-offer drug screening, and candidates must successfully clear a pre-employment background check which may involve social media and internet source reviews. A past criminal conviction does not necessarily disqualify a candidate; each case will be reviewed individually to assess suitability for employment. Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and possession of a valid U.S. Driver's license.
