This position provides the crucial custodial and light maintenance services that keep the entire facility running smoothly and looking its best. Beyond custodial tasks, the role also encompasses light maintenance duties such as minor repairs, furniture assembly, and equipment upkeep. The Custodial and Maintenance Worker will be responsible for cleaning high-traffic areas, offices, restrooms, and lunchrooms by performing tasks such as emptying trash, recycling collection, and seasonal outdoor duties like weeding and snow removal to maintain safe walkways. Maintenance responsibilities include tasks like painting touch-ups, changing light bulbs and batteries, assembling and moving furniture, replacing ceiling tiles, and testing emergency lights regularly. The position also involves maintaining janitorial supplies, refilling dispensers throughout the building, and working closely with the Facilities Manager to order supplies, coordinate with contractors, and identify facility concerns.

This role requires a candidate with at least two years of experience in custodial or maintenance services, who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of interacting professionally with all levels within the organization. Physical stamina is important due to the nature of the job, which includes bending, walking, lifting up to 65 pounds, and using various cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment. The work environment is primarily indoors within the main office building with some limited tasks performed outdoors, such as seasonal landscaping and snow removal.

Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • two years experience in custodial or maintenance work
  • ability to perform physical tasks including bending, reaching, twisting, standing, walking and climbing
  • ability to lift and push items weighing up to 65 pounds
  • capable of using maintenance and cleaning equipment such as vacuums, ladders, power washers, hand and power tools
  • reliable attendance and punctuality

Job Duties

  • clean, dust, vacuum and mop throughout the building
  • clean and sanitize restroom facilities including toilets, trash, sanitary bins, stall surfaces, counters, sinks, floors and mirrors
  • clean and sanitize lunchroom including countertops, tables, chairs, floors, trash receptacles, water dispensers and all appliances
  • empty trash from offices, cubicles and outside waste containers, replace liners as needed, bring to collection area, pick up littered trash on property
  • collect single-stream and cardboard/paper recycling from deposit areas in the building and bring to the pick-up location
  • assist seasonally with weeding of the property, light shoveling and keeping walkways clear of ice
  • perform minor repairs such as spackling, paint touch-ups, changing light bulbs/batteries, assembling furniture, hanging bulletin boards, replacing ceiling tiles
  • move furniture, tables, chairs, and deliveries of paper products
  • change building and refrigerator water filters on schedule
  • test emergency lights throughout the building monthly
  • empty and clean grease trap in kitchen during summer
  • clean and turn on/off auxiliary heaters on a seasonal schedule
  • check janitorial supplies and provide supply order list
  • refill dispensers like toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer throughout the building
  • identify areas of concern in building
  • assist Facilities Manager with contractor coordination
  • perform other duties as required by Facilities Manager
