Job Description

Our Lady Queen of Angels Church is a welcoming and vibrant Roman Catholic parish dedicated to serving its community through spiritual growth, worship, and various community activities. The church serves as a spiritual home to many families and individuals, providing not only religious services but also community-centered events and support programs throughout the year. Located in a serene environment, the church and its associated facilities, including the Ministry Center, Chapel, Parish Office, and school, require consistent maintenance to ensure they remain clean, safe, and inviting spaces for all parishioners and visitors. The parish places a strong emphasis on maintaining its facilities to reflect the respect and dignity of the religious services and events it hosts. At Our Lady Queen of Angels Church, the commitment to excellence extends beyond worship and into the upkeep of its premises to enhance the experience of those who visit and participate in parish life.

The General Maintenance Custodian position at Our Lady Queen of Angels Church plays a crucial role in preserving the health, safety, and aesthetics of the church and its surrounding facilities. This part-time, non-exempt role offers an hourly wage of between $19 and $21, reflecting the importance and responsibility carried by this position. The custodian’s primary responsibility includes a wide range of cleaning and maintenance duties such as trash removal, mopping, vacuuming, and thorough restroom cleaning across multiple facilities including the church, chapel, Ministry Center, Parish Office, hall kitchen, café kitchen, and occasionally the school. This position ensures that all public spaces are spotless, well-maintained, and comfortable for parishioners and visitors alike.

Additionally, the role involves supporting parish events by setting up and breaking down equipment and furniture as needed throughout the year, which requires attention to detail and flexibility. The custodian works under the supervision of the Director of Facilities and is expected to perform general maintenance tasks according to established schedules while following safety protocols. A keen understanding of janitorial skills, cleaning equipment, and supplies is essential, as is the ability to work independently and manage time efficiently. The role demands physical stamina due to frequent walking, standing, bending, and lifting responsibilities, and the custodian must be comfortable working in varying indoor and outdoor conditions with exposure to chemicals and other hazards.

This position also requires a level of confidentiality respecting the privacy of office records and interactions with church staff and parish members, highlighting the need for professionalism and discretion. Preference is given to candidates who are proficient in both English and Spanish, reflecting the diverse community served by the church. Overall, the General Maintenance Custodian is a vital team member contributing significantly to the smooth operation and welcoming environment of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church, supporting its mission to provide a sacred and well-maintained space for worship and community gathering.
