Job Description

The Diocese of Laredo is a faith-based organization committed to serving the spiritual, educational, and social needs of the Catholic community within its jurisdiction. It operates various facilities including offices and residences that support the Diocese's mission of fostering faith, respect, joy, and unity among its members. Rooted in a tradition of service and community engagement, the Diocese provides a work environment that values faithfulness and responsibility, promoting a positive and collaborative atmosphere for its staff and volunteers. The Diocese of Laredo is dedicated to maintaining safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities that reflect the values and dignity of its mission and community. It operates multiple locations where administrative and pastoral activities take place, requiring a workforce dedicated to upholding the highest standards of care and cleanliness.

The role of Custodian at the Diocese of Laredo is a part-time position that entails providing thorough janitorial and cleaning services across various diocesan facilities, including offices and residences. The position requires a conscientious individual with at least two years of experience in custodial or janitorial services, demonstrating knowledge of proper cleaning techniques and chemical use. The Custodian will be responsible for routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, window washing, and trash removal, as well as maintaining kitchen and restroom areas. The role demands physical capabilities such as lifting up to 25 pounds, frequent bending and standing, and the ability to work in various weather conditions.

This position is non-exempt under the FLSA, entails a work schedule of approximately 25 hours per week from Monday through Friday, including non-standard hours as needed, and is designed to support the Diocese with flexible and reliable cleaning services. The Custodian will work under supervision with some latitude for independent judgment, ensuring that all cleaning duties meet the Diocese's standards. The position requires a valid Texas driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation due to the necessity of traveling between multiple diocesan locations.

Candidates must possess good communication skills in both English and Spanish to effectively follow instructions and interact with supervisors. The Diocese emphasizes safety, environmental awareness, and professionalism in this role. In return, the Diocese of Laredo offers a supportive work environment grounded in faith and community values, with limited benefits available to part-time employees upon the completion of the applicable waiting period. This opportunity offers not only employment but the chance to contribute to a meaningful mission that enhances the spiritual and communal life of the region.
