Job Description

Easterseals Southern California is a renowned non-profit organization that has been committed to transforming lives for over a century. With a strong focus on championing inclusion and independence, Easterseals Southern California delivers essential services to a diverse community of more than 29,000 people annually. These services range from early childhood programs and autism services to employment support and independent living assistance. The organization's mission is deeply rooted in advocacy and education to break down barriers faced by the one-in-four Americans with disabilities and to create a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

As an established leader in community service, Easterseals Southern California operates multiple programs and centers designed to meet the unique needs of their participants. Their Child Development Centers are a key part of their commitment, providing a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children and families. The centers are staffed by dedicated professionals who work collaboratively to nurture growth, promote development, and ensure each child’s well-being.

The role available is for a Custodian at one or more of these Child Development Centers. This position offers a starting pay range of $20 to $22.59 per hour, reflecting the importance of maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for children, staff, and visitors. Under direct supervision, the Custodian will perform a variety of custodial duties that encompass all interior spaces and adjacent exterior properties, ensuring a comfortable atmosphere for everyone who uses the facilities.

The Custodian’s responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness in administrative areas, eating spaces, and child activity zones by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming carpets, washing walls and windows, and dusting furniture and fixtures. The role requires regular trash removal and restroom sanitation to meet health standards. Additionally, the Custodian will follow Title 22 Community Care Licensing regulations to uphold health and safety, promptly notify management regarding repairs or hazards, and manage cleaning supplies by coordinating orders and organizing deliveries.

Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least one year of custodial or housekeeping experience in a similar setting such as hospitals, childcare, preschools, or other licensed facilities. Certification in pediatric CPR and first aid is required, alongside a food handler’s certificate. The selected individual must also complete mandated trainings, including Child Abuse Reporter Training and Pesticide Safety Training, and maintain various clearances such as sex offender index clearance and Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.

This physically demanding role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, perform various physical movements like bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), reaching, and carrying, as well as passing a post-offer physical examination and a tuberculosis test. The Custodian must be able to provide current immunizations as required by California state regulations for child development staff. Occasional local travel up to 10% of the time with reliable transportation is expected. The position also involves exposure to environmental conditions such as noise, heat, dust, bodily fluids, and regular use of cleaning solutions.

Joining Easterseals Southern California means becoming part of a passionate team dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of people with disabilities and the broader community. The organization values diversity, safety, and inclusion, offering a rewarding opportunity for individuals who want to contribute to a meaningful cause while growing their custodial career in a supportive and mission-driven environment.
