With a strong commitment to delivering comprehensive social services and community support programs, ABC operates through various departments and specialized programs designed to address the evolving needs of the community. Among these programs, the Business Services Office plays a vital role, providing essential custodial and maintenance services to ensure a clean, safe, and healthy environment within agency facilities. The organization prides itself on its inclusive and community-focused work culture, backed by a solid history of service excellence and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The Business Services Office is currently seeking dedicated candidates for the Custodian-I/Disinfection Technician positions available on both A-shift (8:30 am - 5:00 pm) and B-shift (4:00 pm - 12:30 am). These are full-time positions requiring a 40-hour work week throughout the year, providing a stable employment opportunity with a salary range between $33,280 and $37,148, classified under Salary Grade 15. The roles place a particular emphasis on enhanced cleaning and disinfectant services to uphold environmental health and safety standards within assigned facilities.
The Custodian-I/Disinfection Technician is responsible for executing thorough cleaning tasks, sanitation, and disinfection procedures using approved techniques and industry best practices. This position is key to preventing the spread of infection, especially in light of heightened awareness surrounding infectious diseases such as COVID-19. The incumbent will regularly perform disinfectant and sanitation tasks both inside the facility and in external areas to maintain a safe environment for staff, clients, and visitors alike.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in custodial maintenance, including the correct use of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and supplies. The role also involves attending to the safe storage and handling of such materials in compliance with State and Federal OSHA standards and other regulatory guidelines. The position requires physical stamina to perform heavy manual lifting and the agility to complete tasks adhering to a detailed operational schedule.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are critical to following instructions and ensuring compliance with safety and operational protocols. Preference is given to applicants fluent in both English and Spanish, which supports effective communication within the diverse community that ABC serves.
The agency prioritizes candidates with the knowledge and hands-on experience in infection control, emphasizing proper disinfection methods in alignment with public health recommendations. Certification or formal training in custodial, safety, or related environmental health fields is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license and have reliable transportation for commuting requirements.
Health and safety are paramount at ABC, where certain custodial positions may require clearance by the Justice Center of New York and the Office of Children and Family Services to allow unsupervised contact with children. Candidates with any indication of child abuse or neglect will not be eligible for employment.
This position represents a vital contribution to the agency’s mission to maintain clean, secure, and hygienic facilities that promote wellness and trust among its community members. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled, underscoring the organization’s commitment to attracting dedicated professionals who share its vision for community well-being and environmental safety.
