Job Description
The University of North Florida (UNF) is a renowned public research university located in Jacksonville, Florida. Known for its commitment to providing high-quality education and fostering community engagement, UNF offers a wide range of academic programs and services that cater to diverse student and staff populations. As a Carnegie Community Engaged Institution, UNF actively collaborates with local and global partners to contribute to the public good and prepare educated, engaged citizens. The university is dedicated to maintaining an inclusive and welcoming environment, ensuring that all members of its community feel valued and supported. UNF adheres to strict policies against discrimination and harassment, supporting equal opportunity for all individuals regardless of genetic information, race, color, religion, age, sex, disability, marital status, national origin, or veteran status.
This job opportunity is within the Physical Facilities department, specifically in Custodial Services. The position offers compensation at an hourly rate of $15.00 and involves performing a variety of housekeeping duties essential to maintaining the cleanliness and safety of campus facilities. The role requires attention to detail and adherence to the APPA cleaning standards, which is a recognized benchmark for quality custodial services.
As a Custodial Services team member at UNF, the employee will be responsible for cleaning restrooms, classrooms, offices, common areas, and various types of floors including carpet and tile. Additional responsibilities include managing event setups and cleanups, supporting other departments, handling work orders, and assisting with supply deliveries. The role also includes special assignments such as setup for graduations and providing manpower during large campus events. Due to the nature of campus operations, the position is designated as a Tier 2 respondent for emergency situations, meaning the employee is expected to return to campus during declared emergencies to support continued facility operations.
Supervisory oversight is provided, with the incumbent's work reviewed for accuracy and compliance with instructions. Scheduled work hours are Sunday through Friday from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, offering a consistent overnight shift schedule that requires reliability and commitment.
This position requires a minimum of a 9th-grade education or an equivalent combination of education and experience in accordance with Florida Statute 112.219. Some roles may also require possession of a classified driver’s license if operation of certain vehicles is necessary. Background checks are mandatory for employment consideration, and depending on the role, credit checks may also be required. This ensures a safe and secure environment for the university community.
In addition to custodial duties, the role demands compliance with Title IX responsibilities, identifying the employee as a "Responsible Employee." Therefore, individuals in this position must report any knowledge of sexual misconduct, violence, or child sexual abuse involving students, employees, contractors, or visitors promptly to designated university officials.
Joining the UNF Custodial Services team means being part of a dynamic and community-focused institution that values the contributions and safety of its employees and constituents. It is an excellent opportunity for those seeking steady, meaningful work in a supportive university environment with a commitment to public engagement and equal opportunity.
