Job Description
Hensel Phelps is a leading full-service building provider with over 84 years of industry experience. Established in the early 20th century, the company has grown from a traditional bid-build general contractor to an organization offering comprehensive development, construction, and facility services. With a reputation for innovation and quality, Hensel Phelps collaborates with clients to bring their visions to life, focusing on project lifecycle management from initial planning through long-term facilities management. The company’s dedicated Facility Services Group leverages decades of experience to provide specialized solutions including building systems integration, facility management, and maintenance of complex campuses. Known for delivering best-in-class operational expertise, Hensel Phelps emphasizes teamwork, knowledge sharing, and client-focused service, making it a respected name in the construction and facility services industry.
The Custodial Technician position at Hensel Phelps plays a critical role in maintaining cleanliness and a safe environment within client facilities. This role is hourly, with a salary range from $18 to $21 per hour in New York, and is contingent upon successful completion of work authorization verification, substance abuse screening, physical exam if applicable, background checks, and a Culture Index™ survey. The Custodial Technician will be responsible for performing a broad range of custodial functions including floor care, trash removal, glass cleaning, vacuuming, and involvement in event set-up and clean-up. The role demands physical exertion and handling up to 100 pounds occasionally, as well as the ability to operate custodial and snow removal equipment. This is a position suited for individuals with at least one year of custodian experience, good communication skills, the ability to follow instructions, and basic computer proficiency for email and Microsoft Word tasks.
In addition to maintaining the cleanliness and order of client spaces, the Custodial Technician is expected to engage with building occupants, provide excellent customer service, and support special events through logistics such as locking/unlocking doors and arranging furniture. The physical nature of the job involves heavy exertion and regular movement, including walking, climbing ladders, stooping, reaching, and occasional exposure to varying weather conditions. The role also includes some office duties such as reading communications, handling blueprints, and verifying measurements.
Hensel Phelps offers generous benefits to full-time employees, including company-paid medical and life insurance, long-term disability coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, and an employee assistance program. Additional benefits include options for vision and dental insurance, paid time off from hire, and potentially a company cell phone or allowance. Depending on location, employees may also receive a cost of living adjustment. The company is committed to equal opportunity employment and maintaining a work environment free from discrimination. This position offers stability, a supportive work culture, and opportunities to grow within a respected industry leader.
