The Custodial Operations Manager plays a pivotal role within ABM by overseeing the evening custodial operations at a major medical university campus. This leadership position entails managing cleaning services across a wide array of facilities including academic buildings, research laboratories, clinical environments, administrative offices, and public spaces, to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming atmosphere for a diverse population that includes students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors. The role requires the development and implementation of effective staffing plans, cleaning schedules, and service standards tailored to the unique needs of this complex environment. The manager is responsible for ensuring consistent service quality through regular inspections, audits, and monitoring of key performance indicators. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3-5 years of relevant custodial or facilities management experience
  • Experience supervising large teams preferred
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Knowledge of custodial cleaning methods and safety procedures
  • Experience with labor scheduling and performance management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work evening shifts and respond to emergencies
  • Effective organizational and problem-solving abilities

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of custodial, facilities, environmental services, or operations management experience
  • Prior experience supervising large teams in healthcare, higher education, research, or institutional environments preferred
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of custodial best practices, cleaning methods, equipment, and safety procedures
  • Experience with labor management, scheduling, performance management, and employee development
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and facility management or work order systems
  • Ability to work evenings and respond to operational needs outside of regular business hours when necessary

Job Duties

  • Direct and oversee evening custodial operations across multiple campus facilities including classrooms, laboratories, offices, clinical environments, and public spaces
  • Develop and implement staffing plans, cleaning schedules, and service standards to ensure consistent and efficient service delivery
  • Monitor operational performance through inspections, audits, and key performance indicators
  • Ensure proper staffing coverage during evening operations, including emergency response situations and special events as needed
  • Enforce all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment and cleaning chemicals
  • Maintain compliance with client expectations, contractual requirements, and regulatory standards
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and supervise custodial personnel, including supervisors, leads, and frontline team members
  • Establish performance expectations and conduct regular performance evaluations
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, safety, and customer service
  • Manage employee scheduling, labor allocation, attendance, overtime, and workforce productivity
  • Support employee development through ongoing coaching and training initiatives
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and quality audits to ensure adherence to established cleanliness standards
  • Address service deficiencies promptly and implement corrective action plans as necessary
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, service quality, and cost-effectiveness
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to ensure custodial services align with organizational needs and expectations
  • Maintain accurate records related to inspections, staffing, training, safety compliance, and operational performance
