Job Description
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a well-regarded network of high-performing public charter schools committed to delivering academic excellence in safe and supportive learning environments. AMS primarily serves students in historically underserved communities, focusing on nurturing student success and educational equity. With campuses designed to foster effective learning, AMS emphasizes creating environments that are not only academically enriching but also safe, welcoming, and conducive to the overall well-being of students and staff. Dedicated to growth and continual improvement, AMS represents a dynamic and mission-driven educational network. The organization is characterized by a collaborative and supportive school culture, encouraging professional development and career advancement within the field of education. AMS provides an environment where employees are valued and where their work directly impacts the educational experience of students, making every role meaningful and rewarding. AMS is currently seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Day Porter / Custodian to join their team at the Tucson campus located at 434 W Lerdo Rd. This full-time, on-site position offers a competitive hourly rate ranging from $15.50 to $18.00 depending on experience, with immediate start dates available. The Day Porter / Custodian position is an integral support role within the school community. The person hired for this role will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the campus during school hours. Their duties will cover a broad range of tasks that ensure the upkeep of classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and other common areas. This role requires a hands-on approach to maintaining floors, windows, walls, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces via sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and sanitizing. The individual will also handle trash and recycling disposals, as well as the laundering of custodial materials like towels and mop heads. Beyond routine cleaning, the Day Porter / Custodian will assist in daily operational support involving inventory management of cleaning supplies and equipment, set up support for cafeteria and school events, and basic maintenance duties such as light bulb replacements. Operating and maintaining various custodial equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, buffers, and carpet extractors will be essential functions. Safety and compliance will be a priority, including adherence to Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical handling protocols, campus safety standards, and HAZMAT regulations. Responsibilities extend to securing the campus by locking and unlocking designated areas and addressing safety concerns swiftly. A key component of the role involves communication and collaboration with campus leadership and other stakeholders to relay supply needs and maintenance issues while maintaining professional interactions with students, families, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, have strong organizational and teamwork skills, and thrive in the fast-paced environment of a busy educational facility. AMS also promotes ongoing training and professional development opportunities to support employee growth. This role offers the chance to engage in meaningful work that directly contributes to the positive learning environment and student experience at AMS.
