Job Description
Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, Inc. (KCS) is a well-established nonprofit organization founded in 1973. As a 501(c)(3) multi-service organization, KCS is dedicated to serving the diverse needs of the Korean American community in the metropolitan New York area through a wide array of social service programs. Supported by government agencies, foundations, corporations, and individual donors, KCS has developed a robust framework to deliver vital community services that foster well-being, inclusion, and empowerment for individuals of all ages, with a special focus on older adults. The organization’s commitment to social responsibility and community development has made it a cornerstone in the local nonprofit sector.
The Custodial Aide/Driver position at the KCS Flushing Older Adult Center is integral to maintaining the center’s welcoming, safe, and hygienic environment. This full-time or part-time role involves supporting daily operations through routine custodial duties, managing inventory and supplies, and performing meal delivery services between the Flushing location and other KCS sites such as the Manhattan Satellite and Pop-Up Café. The position reports directly to Diane Lee and requires a flexible work schedule to align with delivery days and event operations. With an hourly wage of $20, this role offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the well-being of older adults in the community while working within a supportive team.
As a Custodial Aide/Driver, the successful candidate will be responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of program spaces including bathrooms, kitchens, offices, and communal areas. Tasks include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, sanitizing, trash removal, and ensuring compliance with sanitation protocols established by NYC Aging and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). The role also entails assistance in setting up and breaking down rooms for various programs and meal services, maintaining organized storage spaces, refrigerators, and closets, and managing the transportation of meals with strict adherence to food safety and vehicle cleanliness standards.
This position requires a strong sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask efficiently. The physical demands include frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 40 pounds, which is essential for handling supplies and transport containers safely. The candidate must demonstrate courteous interaction with older adults, staff, and volunteers while showing reliability and punctuality. Prior experience in custodial work, facility support, food service, or community programs is preferred, with a high school diploma or GED being desirable. A valid driver’s license is also preferred for those involved in meal transport tasks.
KCS is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive work environment. The Custodial Aide/Driver will have the opportunity to engage with a vibrant community while playing a crucial role in ensuring the center operates smoothly and meets all health and safety standards. This position is ideal for individuals who are team-oriented, physically able to perform the duties, and passionate about serving older adults in a nonprofit setting. Working at KCS means being part of an organization that values community impact, professional growth, and cultural sensitivity, making it an excellent place for those looking to make a tangible difference through their work.
