Job Description

American Cruise Lines is the largest river and small-ship cruise line in the United States, renowned for offering more than 50 itineraries across the country's most scenic waterways and coastal destinations. Operating in regions ranging from Alaska and New England to the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River, the company is dedicated to providing personalized guest experiences aboard its fleet of the finest ships in America. Guided by a mission to share America's story through exceptional travel, American Cruise Lines is recognized for its strong commitment to quality, hospitality, and meaningful employee growth. The company's culture is built on the core values of optimism, commitment, patriotism, and merit, creating an engaging and supportive environment where employees can thrive.

The Culinary Trainer role based in Salt Lake City, UT, offers a unique career path for experienced culinary professionals such as line cooks, sous chefs, and pastry chefs who are passionate about cooking and eager to mentor others. This position transcends the traditional kitchen experience by providing an opportunity to train, coach, and inspire the next generation of shipboard chefs through a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on kitchen training. The role emphasizes developing culinary team members to uphold American Cruise Lines' exceptional dining standards aboard their distinguished ships.

As a Culinary Trainer, you will work closely with the Culinary Training Executive Chef to lead engaging training sessions that cover culinary techniques, food safety, sanitation, and company operating standards. You’ll be instrumental in building the confidence and skills of new trainees by providing constructive feedback and evaluating their readiness for onboard culinary assignments. The position also requires collaboration to continuously refine training programs and materials to ensure that the training curriculum remains current, effective, and aligned with industry best practices.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Culinary Trainer maintains a strong hands-on presence in the kitchen. When formal classes aren’t in session, you support food preparation and meal service, ensuring that you stay connected to daily culinary operations. The role also includes occasional travel (about 10-20 percent of the time) to company vessels and training locations, offering exposure to different aspects of cruise line operations and an opportunity to extend your impact across the fleet.

The work schedule is designed for a healthy work-life balance with a Monday through Friday daytime timetable, making it a desirable alternative to the unpredictable and demanding hours typical in traditional restaurant environments. Beyond practical benefits, this role offers valuable career advancement opportunities within a growing company, supportive team culture, and the chance to contribute meaningfully to the company’s ongoing success by developing talented culinary professionals. Joining American Cruise Lines means becoming part of a respected industry leader that values your expertise and supports your professional growth while promoting a positive and rewarding working experience.
