The current opening is for a Full-Time Food and Nutrition Services Cook Trainer within the Kaweah Health Medical Center (KHMC) Food and Nutrition Services department. This position is benefits eligible and requires working variable shifts of 8 hours or less. The Cook Trainer plays a pivotal role in onboarding and mentoring new cooks, developing their skills, and ensuring consistent adherence to food preparation standards, safety regulations, and company recipes. This role involves hands-on training, providing clear guidance, and fostering a culture of excellence within the kitchen staff.

The ideal candidate will have proven culinary experience and strong leadership abilities, helping other kitchen staff excel in both cooking and communication skills. They will design training programs for new and existing employees, monitor performance, provide constructive feedback, and support kitchen operations during peak periods. Additionally, the Cook Trainer ensures all food preparation activities comply with health, safety, and sanitation standards and actively collaborates with management to address training needs. This position requires ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire or transfer, alongside a high school diploma or GED and relevant culinary experience.

Job Requirements

Job Duties

  • Designs and implements training programs for new and existing kitchen staff
  • Provides hands-on training in food preparation, cooking techniques, portion control, and plating
  • Monitors cook performance and provides regular feedback and coaching
  • Ensures all trainees adhere to health, safety, and sanitation standards
  • Reviews logs and reports to determine and implement improvements in processes
  • Trains staff on standardized recipes, kitchen procedures, and the proper use of equipment
  • Assists in evaluating and updating training materials as needed
  • Supports kitchen operations during peak hours to maintain a smooth workflow
  • Collaborates with management to identify skill gaps and training needs
  • Participates in performance assessments and tracks the progress of culinary staff
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area
  • Performs other duties as assigned
