Job Description

Sodexo is a global leader in quality of life services, dedicated to improving the daily experience of individuals by providing integrated food service, facilities management, and other specialized solutions. The company partners with a wide range of clients across various sectors, including hospitality, education, healthcare, corporate, and event services. At Sodexo, the focus is on creating a better everyday experience for employees and clients alike by fostering a supportive, inclusive, and purpose-driven work environment. With its commitment to diversity, equality, and career development, Sodexo offers employees the opportunity to grow personally and professionally within a company that values respect, culture, and belonging.

The Virginia Beach Convention Center, operated under Sodexo's management, is a premier event and convention destination renowned for hosting a diverse range of functions, from large-scale conferences and expos to intimate corporate gatherings. As a Culinary Supervisor working full-time at this dynamic location, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that the kitchen operations deliver exceptional service, quality food production, and adhere strictly to food safety and sanitation standards. The shift schedules vary, and while open availability is preferred, specific work hours will be discussed during the interview process. The hourly pay range for this position is $20 to $22, reflecting the skill and responsibility required.

This supervisory role bridges the gap between senior kitchen staff and higher-level culinary management such as Sous Chefs and Executive Chefs. You will provide hands-on oversight, guiding the culinary team through daily production activities, monitoring adherence to standardized recipes and portion controls, and maintaining the smooth and safe functioning of kitchen operations. Leadership duties include coordinating culinary staff assignments, supporting onboarding and on-the-job training, and managing production flow to meet event needs efficiently. The position demands a strong knowledge of batch cooking and just-in-time production methods, especially important in high-volume and multi-outlet culinary environments typical of convention centers.

As a Culinary Supervisor, you will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant food safety certifications, such as ServSafe Manager, which are required for the role. Physical demands include frequent lifting up to 35 pounds and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, reflecting the hands-on nature of the work. Your presence and punctuality during scheduled shifts are critical to maintaining operational excellence.

Sodexo emphasizes a work culture that allows its employees to thrive and brings purpose to their daily contributions. The company provides ongoing training and development opportunities aimed at career advancement, making this role not just a job but a step towards building a rewarding culinary career. Additionally, Sodexo offers a comprehensive benefits package that supports employees’ health, wellbeing, and financial security. These benefits include paid time off, holidays, medical, dental, and vision coverage, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) options, and various discount programs. Some locations may also provide additional site-specific perks such as free shift meals, uniforms, safety shoes, public transportation support, and parking.

Working at Sodexo also means being part of a diverse and inclusive workplace that champions equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of race, gender, age, or any protected status. The company fosters a respectful environment that values employee voices and promotes a sense of belonging, ensuring that every team member feels valued and engaged. This alignment with Sodexo’s core values makes the Culinary Supervisor role at the Virginia Beach Convention Center a unique opportunity for those passionate about culinary leadership and dedicated to delivering memorable food experiences at one of the region’s top venues.
