Job Description
Waltonwood is a reputable community specializing in senior living and hospitality, dedicated to providing a warm, welcoming environment combined with top-tier culinary services. The organization is deeply committed to enhancing the everyday lives of its residents by offering not only comfortable living accommodations but also ensuring that the meals served meet the highest standards of nutrition, taste, and presentation. Waltonwood prides itself on creating dining experiences that are memorable and satisfying, acknowledging that meal times are central to residents' daily routines and overall well-being.
The Culinary Supervisor role at Waltonwood is pivotal within the Culinary Department, which operates under the philosophy that food and dining activities are not merely service elements but essential parts of life for their residents. This role requires a hands-on leader who acts as a bridge between the kitchen staff and the dining room, ensuring the smooth running of kitchen operations, while upholding professionalism and a calm demeanor during busy periods. The Culinary Supervisor supports the Culinary Service Director by managing food and supply purchases, maintaining inventory, and monitoring costs to adhere to company guidelines. Apart from operational duties, the supervisor also assists in the leadership and training of kitchen associates, encouraging a cooperative team environment focused on efficiency and quality.
This position emphasizes the importance of culinary excellence – ensuring the preparation of delicious and visually appealing meals that meet diverse dietary requirements and preferences. The Culinary Supervisor takes an active role in quality control by tasting dishes, being visibly present in the dining area, and collecting resident feedback to continually improve the dining experience. Additionally, this role involves maintaining rigorous standards for cleanliness, sanitation, and safety within the kitchen, ensuring compliance with all health regulations and company policies.
Key responsibilities include purchasing food and cleaning supplies, managing kitchen staffing and scheduling for optimal performance, processing invoices, and collaborating with the Business Office Manager to address billing-related matters. The Culinary Supervisor must possess exemplary communication skills to effectively convey information to team members and residents, operating with integrity and a strong work ethic. Beyond administrative and supervisory duties, the role demands adaptability to step in and actively cook during peak times or special events to support the team.
Waltonwood values associates who demonstrate reliability through regular attendance and punctuality, fostering a dependable, respectful, and professional workplace. The Culinary Supervisor is expected to contribute to a positive team culture by supporting co-workers, welcoming new associates and residents, and aligning with community and company goals. Competencies such as customer focus, integrity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills are critical for success in this role, which blends culinary expertise with leadership and operational management in a hospitality setting dedicated to serving senior residents with dignity and care.
