Job Requirements

  • High-school diploma or equivalent
  • meet physical fitness standards
  • pass background check
  • complete Recruit Training Command (boot camp)
  • complete Class A Technical School
  • volunteer for submarine service for Culinary Specialist Submarines
  • demonstrate good arithmetic skills
  • demonstrate good verbal skills
  • ability to perform detailed work
  • ability to follow instructions
  • ability to work well in a team

Job Duties

  • Prepares menus for meal and catering services
  • operates kitchen and dining facilities on ships and shore
  • provides meals for Sailors, commanding officers, and dignitaries
  • manages inventories, food orders, and financial records
  • ensures compliance with food safety programs and regulations
  • oversees shipboard living quarters and lodging
  • serves as a flight attendant aircrewman (for some assignments)
