The pathway to becoming a Culinary Specialist begins with recruit training, followed by accession training and on-the-job qualifications in galley operations, food preparation, baking, serving, and records management. Depending on Navy needs, formal schooling such as Culinary Specialist A School may be required or waived. Sailors advancing in this rating have opportunities to assume leadership roles like watch captain or leading Culinary Specialist and to participate in special programs including Executive Services, Enlisted Aide, or Instructor duty.
