Training for Culinary Specialists begins with Recruit Training, followed by accession training and qualification in various aspects of galley operations, food preparation, baking, serving, and records management. While a formal Culinary Specialist A School may be waived based on operational needs, sailors gain skills progressively through on-the-job training and formal courses when available. Advancement in this rating is merit-based, with opportunities to progress to leadership roles such as watch captain and leading Culinary Specialist. Special duty assignments, including Executive Services, Enlisted Aide, and Instructor duty, are available to those who demonstrate strong performance and experience.
