The Kitchen Manager position at Times Supermarket is a critical leadership role within the Food Service department. Reporting directly to the Store Director, the Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing all facets of food preparation, sanitation compliance, staff training, and operational efficiency in the kitchen and front-of-house areas. This exempt role offers a competitive starting wage of $22.50 per hour at most locations, with a higher starting pay of $25.00 per hour for the Kailua location. This position requires a dynamic individual capable of multitasking across different kitchen functions such as cooking, grilling, baking, assembling sandwiches and salads, and ensuring quality control. Additionally, the Kitchen Manager enforces hygiene and sanitation standards, manages inventory and ordering processes, trains new cooks and servers, and handles various administrative tasks including transfers and record keeping.

The role involves direct interaction with customers, assisting with orders, and sometimes operating the cash register where applicable. The Kitchen Manager must maintain a clean, organized, and efficient working environment while adapting to the fast-paced nature of food service. Employees in this position should be physically capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, and working in diverse temperature conditions from the chill of freezers to the heat of kitchen ovens and grills. This role also entails mental agility to be detail-oriented, organized, resourceful, and able to work independently or collaboratively in a team setting.

Working hours are flexible but may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with occasional longer shifts up to 10 hours. The Kitchen Manager is also expected to understand and comply with all company policies and procedures, contribute to quality assurance by maintaining recipe standards, and communicate effectively with team members and customers. Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • three years external experience as a cook or two years internal experience as a cook
  • one year supervisory experience preferred

  • possess acceptable written and verbal communication skills in English
  • ability to accurately and efficiently complete work in a timely manner

Job Duties

  • Assist customers with their orders
  • responsible for all aspects of food preparation including prep work and cooking
  • grill items for plate lunches
  • cook chicken and other hot items
  • perform scratch baking as determined by store
  • cook all items for bentos
  • make sandwiches and salads
  • prepare all other hot and cold foods
  • manage front of house operations including assisting customers and ringing up purchases at applicable stores
  • enforce sanitation procedures and product organization and rotation
  • train new cooks, prep cooks and servers in all operational tasks
  • perform administrative duties including transfers, inventories, routine ordering
  • oversee back-of-the-house and front-of-the-house operations
  • maintain quality control and recipe standards
  • answer department phone
  • abide by all company policies and procedures
  • transport grilled foods
  • pack, rotate, and label all prepared foods
  • perform bakery merchandising
  • cut prepared meats for line service
  • set up and break down service line
  • restock plastic and paper goods, drinks, and condiments
  • clean dishes, trash, and surfaces
  • restock soaps, sanitizers, and chemicals
  • make store announcements regarding kitchen specials
  • perform product demonstrations and sampling
  • undertake any tasks necessary as directed by management
