Job Description

Sweetgreen is a renowned national restaurant brand committed to fostering healthier communities by connecting people to real, wholesome food. Established in 2007, Sweetgreen has revolutionized the fast food industry by prioritizing fresh, flavorful meals that are rooted in strong relationships with farmers and local communities. The company's dedication extends beyond just serving food; it passionately promotes sustainable practices, quality ingredients, and a culturally inclusive environment for its customers and employees alike. Sweetgreen continues to expand, maintaining its core mission while developing its teams across restaurants and support centers, providing ample growth opportunities for employees who share their vision of a healthier future. Sweetgreen’s inclusive workplace promotes equal opportunities regardless of gender, age, race, or any legally protected status. As part of their commitment, they participate in the federal E-Verify program and maintain transparent privacy and accommodation policies to ensure a positive experience for all applicants and employees.

The Culinary Lead role, known internally at Sweetgreen as the Kitchen Lead, is a pivotal position focused on ensuring the highest standards of food quality within the kitchen. This role is not a traditional people management position, meaning the Culinary Lead does not handle employee scheduling or performance reviews. Instead, this position emphasizes expertise in food preparation, cooking, and presentation, serving as a leading example through craftsmanship, training, and consistency. Culinary Leads are crucial to maintaining food excellence during every shift and act as the go-to experts for food execution within the kitchen operation.

Unlike conventional restaurant kitchens that rely heavily on grills or fryers, Sweetgreen kitchens operate differently with no grills or fryers but smart systems designed to handle real food done right. Culinary Leads manage food prep and cooking using kitchen tools, knives, and ovens, ensuring that every dish meets Sweetgreen's rigorous standards for flavor and safety. The role involves real-time coaching, helping team members improve their food preparation skills and execution while staying ahead of volume by managing prep timing and inventory. Culinary Leads also act as advocates for food safety, cleanliness, and operational excellence, partnering closely with Shift Leaders and Managers to ensure smooth kitchen operations.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about kitchen work, food quality, and consistency but prefer leadership responsibilities without people management duties. The position offers a clear path for high-performing Kitchen Leads to progress towards General Manager roles within 2 to 3 years. With competitive wages, tips (depending on location), a suite of medical benefits for both part-time and full-time employees, paid vacation, wellness time, parental leave, a free meal each shift, 401(k) plans, and access to team merchandise, Sweetgreen provides a comprehensive benefits package. The opportunity to work in an innovative fast-casual restaurant that is redefining the future of fast food makes this an exciting and rewarding role for culinary professionals seeking growth and impact.
