Job Description
Sweetgreen is a nationally recognized restaurant brand dedicated to cultivating healthier communities by connecting people to real, wholesome food. Established in 2007, Sweetgreen redefines fast food by offering fresh, flavorful meals rooted in sustainable relationships with farmers and local communities. As the brand expands, it remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing the growth and development of its people across all levels, from individual restaurant team members to support center staff. Joining Sweetgreen means investing in your personal career while contributing to a movement where food, community, and purpose intersect meaningfully.
Sweetgreen is seeking a Culinary Lead, also referred to as a Kitchen Lead, to serve as the food quality expert within the kitchen environment. This role focuses on ensuring that every aspect of food preparation, cooking, and presentation adheres to Sweetgreen's high standards for flavor, safety, and visual appeal. The Culinary Lead does not manage personnel or schedules but plays an essential leadership role by setting the bar for food quality during every shift. This person leads through expertise in craft, real-time coaching, and consistent execution, acting as the go-to resource for kitchen food quality and operational excellence. The kitchen setup is unique, forgoing traditional grills and fryers in favor of smart systems and a focus on real food.
As a Culinary Lead, you will facilitate smooth kitchen operations, helping teammates improve their culinary execution and ensuring prep timing and inventory levels meet demands without compromising quality. This position offers a growth pathway—top-performing Kitchen Leads often progress to General Manager roles within two to three years. The role is perfect for individuals passionate about food quality and kitchen leadership without the responsibilities of direct people management. Sweetgreen values individuals who thrive in high-volume settings and embrace the brand's mission to reinvent fast food in a healthier and more sustainable way.
Employment type and salary details are competitive and tailored to align with industry standards, supporting a fulfilling career trajectory. In addition to competitive wages, Sweetgreen offers various benefits attractive to both part-time and full-time team members, including medical, dental, and vision insurance options, paid vacation and parental leave, and a 401(k) plan. The company also provides a free meal every shift and the opportunity to earn tips depending on location and role. This role is a significant step for those looking to advance toward leadership positions such as Shift Leader and Manager, accompanied by ongoing training and development opportunities.
Sweetgreen's commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and equal opportunity employment ensures that all team members and applicants are fully supported regardless of gender, age, race, disability, or other legally protected status. The company participates in the federal E-Verify program, reaffirming compliance with employment eligibility regulations. Sweetgreen also offers accommodations in compliance with the law to support a diverse and accessible workplace environment.
