Job Description
SeniorAge is a dedicated organization committed to serving the community by providing vital services and support to older adults, enriching their quality of life. As a reputable non-profit organization, SeniorAge operates multiple programs and centers focused on health, wellness, and nutrition for seniors. Their mission centers around promoting independence, dignity, and respect for the aging population through compassionate care and innovative services. The organization prides itself on fostering a positive, inclusive environment for both its clients and employees, promoting teamwork and growth within the workplace.
The Culinary Lead position at SeniorAge is a pivotal role that oversees the comprehensive planning, preparation, and serving of meals across their food service operations. This role is designed for an experienced culinary professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and demonstrates strong leadership skills. The Culinary Lead is responsible for supervising all food service assistants, including both paid staff and volunteers, ensuring that all team members are well-trained and capable in all kitchen positions. This role requires a hands-on leader who collaborates effectively with kitchen staff and the Center Lead to create a positive workplace that aligns with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Given the sensitivity of the position, it is classified as safety-sensitive, requiring pre-employment drug testing and background checks in compliance with the Federal Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988.
The successful candidate will have at least two years of cooking experience in a restaurant, school, or large group setting, bringing a solid foundation in food preparation and kitchen management. Food service supervisory experience is preferred, and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is mandatory. The role also demands obtaining a food handler’s certificate within the first 90 days of employment and a ServSafe certificate within the first year if applicable based on the county regulations. The Culinary Lead will exercise excellent people skills, managing multiple tasks efficiently while paying close attention to detail and maintaining high standards of kitchen operation, sanitation, and safety. This role includes physical demands such as standing for long periods, lifting, and occasional travel to different locations as necessary. Employees must be comfortable working with a variety of kitchen equipment and in environments that may include slippery floors, extreme temperatures, and sharp objects.
This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the wellbeing of seniors in the community while developing leadership skills in a supportive setting. The role also encourages ongoing learning, particularly in computer skills used for operations and reporting, helping the Culinary Lead stay organized and efficient. SeniorAge’s commitment to a drug-free workplace underscores their dedication to safety and professionalism, making this an ideal role for candidates who value integrity and community impact in their work.
