The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a well-established 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. Job Requirements
- Basic knife skills and ability to execute basic cooking techniques
- Experience or training in nutrition or culinary arts
- Commitment to teamwork and effective communication
- Dynamic personality with excellent presentation skills
- Ability to adapt recipes for community food culture
- Knowledge of regional produce
- ServSafe certification or NYC Food Protection course completion prior to start
- Ability to work in diverse cultural settings
- Experience conducting cooking demonstrations
- Experience collaborating in team environments
- Understanding of food security and health inequities
- Strong customer service skills
- Willingness to stand for long periods and work outdoors
- Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds
- Residency in NYC Tri-state area
Job Qualifications
- Experience or training in nutrition or culinary arts
- ServSafe certification or successful completion of NYC Food Protection course
- Strong presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability to adapt recipes to reflect cultural food practices
- Experience working in multicultural, diverse community settings
- Experience implementing cooking demonstrations
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Understanding of regional food systems and food security issues
- Dynamic personality and commitment to teamwork
Job Duties
- Participate in monthly staff meetings at the Health Department office
- Prepare and implement interactive cooking demonstrations using local and seasonal produce
- Collaborate with Nutrition Educators and Bilingual Educators as a team
- Conduct trauma-informed culinary demonstrations following curriculum and recipes
- Assist with set-up and breakdown of tents, cooking equipment, and materials
- Maintain food safety standards including cleaning and sanitation of equipment
- Market and promote the program to ensure required participation levels
