The Culinary Cook position at Forest Hills Commons is integral to this mission, acting as a key contributor to the quality of life of the residents by preparing nutritious, flavorful, and appealing meals. This role, with a schedule of 11am to 7pm every other weekend and a starting compensation of $15 per hour, is designed for individuals passionate about culinary excellence and senior care. The Culinary Cook is responsible for preparing meals in batches, ensuring nutritional adequacy and proper temperature, and accommodating special dietary requirements. This role demands a combination of culinary skill, attention to food safety, and a deep understanding of the unique dietary needs of seniors.

In addition to meal preparation, the Culinary Cook plays a supervisory role overseeing servers, ensuring that food service operations run smoothly and residents' needs are met promptly and efficiently. This includes planning menus with seasonal inspiration and Chef's Choice selections, monitoring and recording food temperatures, and maintaining a sanitary work area throughout food preparation and service. The role requires tasting all food before serving to verify quality and palatability, covering hot and cold plates correctly, and assisting with receiving and storing deliveries.

Job Duties

  • Prepare palatable, attractive, nutritionally adequate meals in batches ensuring proper temperature
  • Taste all food before serving to residents to ensure the food is good quality and palatable
  • Cover all hot plates and place under a heat lamp for delivery
  • cover and place cold plates in a designated area, ensuring all are served at the proper temperature
  • Plan menus and prepare seasonally inspired meals, including any special dietary requirements
  • Monitor and record food temperatures at each meal
  • Frequently taste and adjust food for proper appearance, flavor, smell, and consistency
  • Plan Chef's Choice items to be served daily, verifying selection with Culinary Director as requested
  • Supervise servers to prepare food, clean, and store supplies and equipment
  • Oversee servers as they complete resident checklists and communicate to ensure residents' needs are met
  • Assist in receiving and storage of deliveries from vendors
  • Maintain a clean food service work area as food preparation and service is in process
