UW Medicine-Northwest Food and Nutrition offers an exceptional career opportunity for the position of Culinary Associate. The Culinary Associate role is a key position within this department that requires a comprehensive skill set in food preparation, cooking, and hospitality. This full-time, fixed-duration one-year role (benefits eligible) works 12 pm to 8:30 pm shifts, including weekends. The associate supports the UW Medicine Health System's mission by promoting guest relations excellence and upholding the hospitality model. This position is responsible for preparing food with attention to quality, safety, nutrition, and flavor in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Duties include cooking and baking items from scratch, preparing various food types such as meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, and desserts, and using standard recipes or verbal instructions to meet specific dietary needs and production schedules. The role also involves the operation of a variety of kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. Culinary Associates may also provide guidance to food service workers and temporary staff as needed.

Job Requirements
- Possession of, or eligible for, a food handler's permit
- one year of experience as a Food Service Worker or equivalent education/experience

Job Duties
- Cook and/or bake items from scratch to include sauces, marinades and spice blends
- prepare meat, fish and fowl for cooking according to standard recipes, menus, or verbal instructions
- butcher larger cuts of meat, fish, and fowl
- prepare and cook vegetables, fruits, soups, and cereals
- prepare salads, quick breads, desserts, and beverages
- prepare all types of bakery and dessert items according to standard recipes, menus, or verbal instructions
- operate cooking and kitchen equipment such as grills, burners, woks, ovens, microwaves, slicers, toasters, food processors and blenders
- review preparation lists and make adjustments as needed to meet production schedule or specific needs
- test new recipes and ingredients
- may direct Food Service Workers, students, and temporary workers
- perform other duties as assigned
