The organization is currently seeking a Culinary Arts Training Specialist for a full-time position located on Main Street in Buffalo, NY. This role is essential for helping individuals take their first steps toward entry-level employment within the culinary and food service industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and delivering a comprehensive, hands-on training program that equips participants with practical cooking skills and industry knowledge. Working Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, this position offers a competitive pay rate of $22-$24 per hour, dependent on experience.

The Culinary Arts Training Specialist’s primary mission is to provide group and individualized culinary instruction across various agency programs. This includes administering both written and practical tests to measure participant progress and proficiency, creating volunteer opportunities that integrate participants’ culinary talents to benefit the broader community, and managing the program’s budget—ensuring effective use of resources and maximized enrollment and training space utilization. The role demands an instructor who not only possesses technical culinary expertise but also exhibits a high degree of sensitivity to the diverse learning needs and styles of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in culinary arts or related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience as a chef or baker in the culinary industry
  • One year of direct service experience with individuals with disabilities preferred
  • Ability to design and deliver culinary instruction
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain within six months
  • Valid New York State driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to manage budget and resources effectively

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in the Culinary Arts or a related field plus 1-year full-time experience in the industry as a chef or baker
  • Associate's degree in culinary arts or a related field plus 3-years full-time experience in the industry as a chef or baker
  • High school diploma plus 5 years' full-time experience in the industry as chef or baker
  • One year full-time direct service experience working with individuals with a disability is preferred
  • Experience as an instructor of a culinary program
  • High degree of technical ability to relay information effectively
  • Possess administrative and technological skills to build course materials
  • ServSafe Certified and Proctor Status preferred
  • Valid NYS Driver's license, approved driving record and reliable transportation

Job Duties

  • Develop, implement and conduct hands-on culinary curriculum
  • Provides group and individualized instruction across agency programs and may train agency staff as needed
  • Administer written and practical tests to measure participants' progress and proficiency
  • Create volunteer opportunities that encompass the participants talents in culinary to better the community at large
  • Manages budget, including costs and certifications, while maximizing enrollment and training space utilization
