The Culinary Arts Training Specialist position presents a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the vocational development of individuals served by The Arc Erie County NY. This full-time role is based in Buffalo, NY, and offers a competitive hourly pay ranging from $22 to $24, depending on experience. Working Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, the specialist will focus on preparing participants for entry-level employment in the culinary and food service industry through a well-structured and comprehensive training program.
This role involves the design, implementation, and delivery of hands-on culinary curriculum tailored to meet the unique learning needs of individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The Culinary Arts Training Specialist will conduct group and individualized instruction across various agency programs and may provide training to agency staff as required. Moreover, the specialist will administer both written and practical evaluations to monitor progress and ensure skills proficiency.
Beyond instruction, the specialist is tasked with fostering community engagement by creating volunteer opportunities that leverage the culinary talents of participants, thereby enriching the community at large. Budget management is also part of the role, requiring oversight of costs and certifications while maximizing enrollment and utilization of training spaces.
The ideal candidate must bring both culinary expertise and a commitment to inclusive education. They should possess the technical ability to convey information effectively, motivate trainees, and adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles. Holding or attaining ServSafe certification and proctor status is preferred, reinforcing a strong foundation in food safety standards. Additionally, the role necessitates a valid New York State driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation to service greater Erie County.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in culinary arts and/or related field or equivalent industry experience
- Experience working as a chef and/or baker in the culinary industry
- Ability to develop and deliver hands-on training programs
- Experience working with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities preferred
- Strong instructional and communication skills
- ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain within six months
- Valid New York State driver's license and reliable transportation
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in the culinary arts and/or a related field plus 1-year full-time experience in the industry as a chef and/or baker
- OR Associate's degree in culinary arts and/or a related field plus 3-years full-time experience in the industry as a chef and/or baker
- OR High school diploma plus 5 years’ full-time experience in the industry as chef and/or baker
- One year full-time direct service experience working with individuals with a disability is preferred
- Experience as an instructor of a culinary program with a high degree of technical ability to relay information effectively
- ServSafe Certified and Proctor Status preferred
- Must have a valid NYS Driver's license, approved driving record and reliable transportation to all parts of greater Erie County area
Job Duties
- Develop, implement and conduct hands-on culinary curriculum
