Job Description

Washington Unified School District (WUSD) has been a cornerstone of educational excellence in West Sacramento since its establishment in 1917. Serving nearly 7,500 students, the district is renowned for its commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity, equity, and cultural competence. As a medium-sized district, WUSD offers an array of innovative programs including Spanish Dual Language Immersion, Visual and Performing Arts, Career Technical Education, AVID, and comprehensive before and after-school care. These programs illustrate the district's dedication to providing a holistic and forward-thinking educational experience for every student. WUSD prides itself on its supportive and collaborative work environment for educators and staff. This is fostered through mentoring programs, ample opportunities for professional growth and development, and state-of-the-art technological resources that promote innovation in teaching methodologies. Rooted deeply in equity and inclusion, WUSD strives to empower every student and educator alike, ensuring that the district remains a vibrant community of educators, families, and partners united in their pursuit of academic excellence and student success.

This Culinary Arts Teacher position within WUSD offers an exciting opportunity for passionate educators who are eager to make an impact in high school education, specifically geared toward grades 9 through 12. The teacher will be responsible for delivering quality instruction in culinary arts, engaging students through hands-on learning experiences that foster essential skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for success in the culinary field. The role involves developing detailed lesson plans and instructional materials, adapting curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students through individualized and small-group instruction, and continuously evaluating academic progress while maintaining accurate records and progress reports. Teachers will also play a vital role in maintaining a positive and functional learning environment by establishing student behavior standards and ensuring the proper use and care of school property and equipment.

Beyond classroom teaching, this position requires involvement in non-instructional duties such as supervising students during various school activities and ensuring student safety and engagement throughout the school day. Additionally, collaboration with parents, counselors, and other staff members is essential for addressing students' academic, health, and social needs. The Culinary Arts Teacher will contribute to the district’s objectives by participating in curriculum development, faculty committees, and fostering partnerships with the local community to enrich student learning experiences. Furthermore, this position may oversee aides, teacher assistants, and volunteers and may also involve coaching or supporting extracurricular athletic programs. The district highly values professional development and encourages teachers to maintain competence and broaden their skill sets through in-service education and other growth opportunities provided by the district or pursued independently.

Washington Unified School District prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion and is an equal opportunity employer actively committed to broadening diversity within its workforce. Candidates holding or pursuing a valid California Career Technical Education (CTE) Credential, or equivalent credentials from out-of-state, are invited to apply. WUSD supports new teachers through an in-house Induction Program that rewards participants with financial incentives upon successful completion of program requirements each year. This position offers a unique chance for an educator to become part of an engaged and dynamic educational community dedicated to student success and excellence in teaching.
