The Culinary Arts Assistant position at Metro Tech High School within the PXU is a vital support role within the CTE & Magnet department, specifically aimed at bolstering the Culinary Arts Program. This is a classified support staff position, scheduled on a 9-month work year calendar, with a salary classified under the Education Support Professional schedule, Grade 2. Starting hourly wages range between $17.11 and $17.89, dependent upon applicable experience and educational background.

As a Culinary Arts Assistant, you will play an essential role in the operational success of the Culinary Arts Program by providing hands-on assistance and instruction to students, primarily focusing on the front of house aspects such as cafe operations, customer service, cashiering, hosting, and expediting food. You will directly support the culinary instructor and head chef by implementing instructional plans, maintaining student records, and assisting with event setup and breakdown for special dining or catering events. Your responsibilities also include supervising students during events, scheduling student work hours including evenings and weekends, and assisting in job search and career preparation activities by providing industry referrals and resume help.

Maintaining sanitation and health safety standards within the work environment is a cornerstone of this role, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. You will manage supply stock levels and support ordering needs, operate cash registers effectively, and contribute positively to both the student learning experience and the broader school community. Effective communication, professionalism, the ability to follow policies and regulations, and fostering positive relationships with students, staff, and public visitors are critical to your success in this position.
