We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Culinary Aide / Wait Staff to join our team on a part-time basis during the second shift. This role is instrumental in ensuring that residents, guests, and staff receive quality food service delivered with care and professionalism. Culinary Aides at Otterbein assist with the preparation and serving of meals, working under strict sanitary conditions to maintain the highest standards of food safety and hygiene. The role involves collaborating closely with nursing staff to facilitate a seamless dining experience for residents, particularly within nursing neighborhoods.

As a Culinary Aide / Wait Staff member, you will be responsible for preparing and setting up menu items according to prescribed standards, servicing hot and cold food on trays accurately, and replenishing cafeteria stock respectfully and efficiently. You will serve meals with a smile, always prioritizing exceptional customer service and positive interaction with residents, family members, and colleagues. Your duties also include maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in kitchen facilities, handling chemicals safely, and assisting kitchen personnel where needed to sustain a safe and healthy environment.

The position requires good communication skills and a cooperative approach to working with the dietary department and other teams within the community. Maintaining resident confidentiality and respecting their rights are paramount. The role supports infection control protocols and universal precautions to protect both staff and residents. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 0-2 years of food service experience preferred
  • Ability to maintain good attendance
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with nursing and dietary staff
  • Ability to follow safety and sanitation protocols
  • Ability to handle food safely and maintain sanitation standards
  • Must be able to work a part-time second shift

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • 0-2 years of food service experience preferred, especially within a Long Term Care environment
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively with nursing staff
  • Knowledge of proper food handling and sanitation practices
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to follow infection control and universal precaution protocols

Job Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service with a smile

  • Safely handle chemicals and educate employees about them
  • Assist in kitchen tasks as needed
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment
  • Communicate and cooperate with dietary and other departments
  • Maintain resident rights and confidentiality
  • Interact positively with residents, family, personnel, and visitors
  • Follow universal precautions and infection control techniques
