Job Description
The hiring establishment is a senior living facility located in Eugene, Oregon, dedicated to providing high-quality care and support to its residents. This organization emphasizes a safe, welcoming environment where residents can enjoy nutritious meals prepared and served with care. Serving the community with compassion and professionalism, the facility values teamwork, effective communication, and maintaining a clean, safe workspace. With a commitment to excellence in senior care, the organization fosters a respectful and positive atmosphere for residents, families, and staff alike.
The role of Culinary Aide is an essential position within this senior living facility, offering part-time employment with a starting wage of $15.25 per hour, depending on experience. The position operates mainly during evening shifts, from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm, with schedules varying between weekends and weekdays to suit the facility's needs. This role involves assisting with food service operations, food handling, and ensuring food safety while supporting the kitchen team in providing nutritious and appetizing meals to residents. The Culinary Aide plays a critical role in enhancing the dining experience by ensuring food is served at the proper temperature, with appealing presentation, and adhering strictly to dietary and therapeutic menus.
During the performance of their duties, the Culinary Aide is responsible for preparing or pre-portioning food items such as beverages, salads, desserts, and other assigned menu options. They also serve meals accurately according to planned menus and resident food preferences. Proper labeling, dating, and storage of food items in compliance with established policies is a key part of their responsibilities, maintaining food safety and reducing the risk of contamination.
The position demands thorough cleaning and sanitization of dishes and kitchen equipment through manual or automatic dishwashing processes, logging water temperatures and sanitizer levels, and reporting any issues promptly. Maintaining a clutter-free and clean work area during food preparation and service is crucial, in addition to performing scheduled cleaning tasks using appropriate chemicals and infection control practices with necessary protective equipment.
Culinary Aides are also tasked with managing kitchen supplies efficiently to avoid waste, ensuring the security of the kitchen, and operating kitchen equipment safely and in accordance with manufacturer instructions and supervision. This role requires dependable punctuality, regular attendance, and a cooperative approach to teamwork across the nursing center departments.
Candidates must have knowledge of safe food preparation and handling techniques, the ability to communicate effectively with residents and their families, and maintain a patient and polite demeanor. The role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and proficiency in English for verbal and written communication. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age due to federal labor laws restricting the operation of power-driven kitchen equipment to adults only.
This position is ideal for individuals seeking part-time work within a supportive senior living environment, with opportunities to attend in-service education and apply learning to improve job performance. Reliability, teamwork, and a passion for contributing to residents' well-being through excellent food service are essential qualities for success in this role.
