Job Description
Norwegian Cruise Line is a renowned global cruise company known for providing exceptional vacation experiences across various destinations worldwide. Among its impressive fleet, the M/S Pride of America holds a special place as the first US-flagged cruise ship in nearly fifty years, serving the Hawaiian market exclusively. Launched in 2005, Pride of America offers year-round voyages departing from Honolulu, Hawaii, to several stunning ports including Kahului and Lahaina on Maui, as well as Nawiliwili on Kauai. This cruise ship not only offers a unique vacation experience premium for travelers but also operates under the US flag which necessitates a US-based crew, making it a crucial employer in the maritime hospitality sector.
The Pride of America employs approximately 935 crew members, offering a variety of shipboard job opportunities that cater to hospitality-oriented professionals interested in immersive, travel-intensive careers. The employment opportunities available range from roles such as Assistant Cook (Prep Cook), Assistant Waiter, Laundry Personnel, Stateroom Attendant for housekeeping, Utility personnel including janitorial services in both galley and hotel areas, and Waiter positions. Many positions require active deployment and availability, though some roles may not currently have active openings.
Working aboard the Pride of America means embracing a dynamic and often fast-paced working environment where hospitality meets maritime operations. The roles on board demand a commitment to superior customer service, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of international colleagues and US crew members. These positions provide employees with a unique opportunity to advance their careers in the cruise industry while living and working in one of the world’s most beautiful regions, the Hawaiian Islands.
All shipboard positions require applicants to hold a GED or high school diploma and meet specific legal and maritime criteria including authorization to work in the U.S., and qualifications for a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) and Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC). These certifications ensure that crew members meet stringent safety, health, and professional standards necessary for the operation of the cruise ship.
Norwegian Cruise Line offers competitive compensation with increased entry-level salaries and the potential for overtime pay. The monthly gross minimum salary for crew members can range from $3,000 to $3,730 based on a 6-month assignment with a 56-hour workweek. Additionally, eligible employees can receive gratuity pay, and enjoy substantial personal savings as the company provides room, food, and transportation. Paid training is provided to all new employees, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the demands of their roles. Moreover, staff and their families have access to exclusive discounts, adding further value to working with Norwegian Cruise Line.
The company fosters a supportive recruitment process, including virtual job fairs that offer prospective employees detailed insights into life aboard the Pride of America alongside immediate one-on-one interviews conducted via virtual platforms. These informative sessions are designed to guide candidates through the expectations and opportunities of shipboard employment and facilitate a smooth hiring process.
This full-time employment opportunity is aimed primarily at individuals willing to relocate or commute to Houston, TX, or other relevant locations as required. Candidates should be prepared to actively participate in virtual interviews and demonstrate their commitment to working in this unique maritime hospitality environment.
