The University of Cincinnati Police Division is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to perform a professional-level role focused on technical and analytical support within daily police operations. This role requires expertise in the collection, collation, and analysis of a variety of data including crime statistics, arrest records, calls for service, and traffic data. The analyst will support all Division personnel by providing timely and detailed analyses, enabling more informed decision-making and effective problem-solving based on data insights. Responsibilities include designing specialized reports and data visualizations, maintaining critical intranet-based data applications, and automating administrative processes to enhance operational efficiency. The position also involves collaborating closely with both internal law enforcement staff and external agencies, as well as communicating statistical insights to various stakeholders including the media and the public.

Ideal candidates will have a strong background in criminal justice, data analysis, or a related field, combined with relevant experience in crime analysis, research, or intelligence analysis. Technical proficiency with numerous programming languages and database systems, including PHP, SQL, Python, and others, as well as familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems, is highly desirable. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent specialized training
  • Minimum one year of crime/intelligence analysis experience
  • Ability to obtain NCIC, LEADS, RCIC certifications
  • Pass background investigation with no criminal record
  • Current valid state operator’s license with good driving record
  • Experience in software development and database administration
  • Strong analytical and communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Administration, Computer Science, Police Science, Mathematics, Statistical Analysis, Information Management, or related field
  • Seven years of relevant work experience or specialized training can substitute for education
  • Minimum of one year experience in crime analysis, research, or intelligence analysis
  • Experience with software development, database administration, and scripting for automation
  • Ability to obtain certification for access to NCIC, LEADS, and RCIC crime systems
  • Valid state operator’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Four years of law enforcement experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MS SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Node/ElectronJS, Python, R, Bash, Powershell
  • Familiarity with Windows Server 2012-2021, Linux (Ubuntu), and macOS

Job Duties

  • Analyze data from various sources and make detailed analyses to determine specific crime patterns
  • Assist Police Division staff in accessing computerized information for citizen inquiries and complaints
  • Identify and report statistical data related to officer performance
  • Work with Command Staff on problem-solving projects
  • Design computerized reports from the Computer Aided Dispatch system
  • Provide information to media personnel through the Public Information Office
  • Confer with police personnel to exchange information for analysis and presentation
  • Provide technical administrative crime analysis assistance to Command Staff
  • Collect, compile, and analyze information on special topics
  • Compile reports and generate maps
  • Maintain and enhance the Public Safety Portal data warehouse
  • Develop and maintain automated administrative processes
  • Create and update the risk assessment desktop application for campus events
  • Automate processes including early warning system emails and crime reports
  • Prepare written materials for internal and external communication
  • Act as a resource for citizens regarding Division statistics and services
  • Compile and review monthly executive summaries
  • Provide supervision to staff as needed
  • Perform other duties based on departmental needs
