Job Description
Seaworthy is a unique artisan workshop and design office nestled in the historic maritime district of Ballard, Seattle. For over five years, Seaworthy has been dedicated to handcrafting premium products that elevate everyday experiences at home. Their focus lies in creating timeless, artisan-quality drinkware sets, cocktail-making tools, and related deluxe bar accessories that blend traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques. The materials used in their products range from metal and wood to glass and leather, ensuring each piece is a true work of art that combines aesthetic appeal and practical use. Despite the current website being somewhat outdated, Seaworthy represents a brand that champions quality, creativity, and craftsmanship, resonating deeply with those who value handmade, bespoke products.
Now, Seaworthy is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced craftsperson to join as a Shop Manager, or "First Mate," to help steer the company towards its next phase of growth. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about hand-making exceptional products and ready to bring their skills to a collaborative team environment while also contributing to operational excellence. The successful candidate will become central not only in producing high-quality bar tools but also in elevating shop efficiency, managing production workflows, and fostering a creative, inspiring workplace culture.
As the Shop Manager, you must possess expertise in traditional woodworking and metalworking, along with a willingness to operate advanced workshop equipment such as CNC routers, laser etchers, cutters, and 3D printers. You will have the creative freedom to collaborate on product design and continually improve production methods, with the goal of refining quality and consistency. Beyond fabrication, the role includes responsibilities like maintaining high standards of quality control, shipping, packaging, inventory management, and general upkeep of the shop environment.
This position is highly collaborative, requiring close work with the business owner on production planning, scheduling, and prioritization. Over time, the opportunity will expand to include supervising and mentoring additional production staff as the team grows. The company culture values initiative, problem solving, and meticulous attention to detail, making this an excellent fit for a self-starter who thrives under pressure and values craftsmanship over assembly-line mentality.
While this is initially a part-time role transitioning to full-time, the compensation package will be competitive and based on experience and the market rate for similar skill sets in Seattle. Seaworthy puts a strong emphasis on finding the right fit and is committed to building the position around the chosen candidate's strengths and talents.
If you want to be at the forefront of a creative artisanal business, contributing to bespoke product development, managing a thriving workshop, and playing an integral role in shaping the future of Seaworthy, this is the opportunity for you. Join the team and help craft not just unique barware, but a sustainable, inspiring small business with a clear vision and strong maritime roots.
