The Courier position at Endeavor Health offers a part-time opportunity, based in Arlington Heights, IL, with a work schedule of Monday through Friday from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, including rotating weekends and holidays. The hourly pay for this role ranges from $18.31 to $25.63, depending on the candidate’s expertise and years of experience. This role is essential in supporting the operations of the healthcare system by ensuring the safe and timely transportation of specimens, reports, supplies, and documents between hospitals, satellite hospital operations, non-affiliated hospitals, physician offices, and other sites as needed.
The role requires operating hospital-owned vehicles in compliance with all relevant state, local, and federal traffic regulations with a strong emphasis on safety and vehicle maintenance. Couriers will conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to identify any potential hazards and ensure the vehicle is clean, refueled, and properly maintained. The position involves utilizing advanced tools such as the Soft Express handheld device for scanning specimens and packages, documenting concerns, and accurate data entry. Couriers will regularly communicate with dispatchers to confirm assignments and report any issues, maintaining tight coordination with laboratory staff to ensure quality patient care.
Beyond transportation duties, the courier also handles other responsibilities such as transporting employees and supplies between various NorthShore sites, retrieving mail and supplies from multiple departments, and providing support for special assignments and projects. A commitment to customer service is vital, with an emphasis on demonstrating courteous and professional behavior while fostering a positive work environment and respecting confidentiality. The Courier must also maintain accurate driving records, adhere strictly to NorthShore’s policies regarding passenger identification, and comply with all licensing and driving record requirements.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or four years of equivalent work experience
- Six months to one year of route delivering or courier driving experience
- Must possess a valid Illinois Class D driver’s license held for at least three years prior
- Must have a clean driving record with no convictions of DUI, reckless driving, leaving the scene of accident, drag racing, manslaughter, reckless homicide, reckless conduct or other serious driving infractions within three years prior
- Willing to learn and able to perform physical functions including lifting/pushing/pulling 20 to 100 lbs with or without accommodation
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Dependable and reliable
- Ability to pay attention to details and work independently
- Must seek supervisory assistance as needed
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent work experience
- Six months to one year of route delivering or courier driving experience
- Knowledge of medical specimens and/or supplies preferred
- Valid Illinois Class D driver’s license held for at least three years prior to application
- Good driving record compliant with State driver motor vehicle verification
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Good interpersonal skills

Job Duties
- Transports specimens, reports and supplies between hospitals, offsite Satellite hospital operations, and non-affiliated hospitals and physician offices
- Operates hospital owned vehicles in a safe manner, adhering to all state, local and federal traffic regulations
- Performs pre and post trip inspection of vehicle for any potential hazards
- Maintains a clean vehicle including refueling and washing
- Notifies management immediately of any mechanical or physical problems with any vehicle
- Services all routine and auxiliary sites as scheduled, retrieving all items and obtaining signatures at each location
- Utilizes Soft Express hand held device to scan specimens and packages, and to document any related issues or concerns
- Regularly communicates with dispatcher to confirm receipt and completion of assignment, issues, and concerns
- Enters pertinent data into handheld device related to pick-up and delivery
- Communicates with laboratory staff and customers to ensure quality patient care
- Transports employees and supplies between hospitals, corporate offices, and other NorthShore sites including Satellite operations and special events
- Retrieves mail and supplies from scheduled locations
- Performs quality sort pre/post-delivery to ensure accuracy
- Notifies department manager of any and all driving infractions including loss of driver's licensure immediately
- Maintains accurate driving records, logs and trip tickets and submits them daily with explanations
- Ensures all NorthShore passengers present valid ID before boarding transportation
- Provides courier service to assigned routes to deliver and pick-up supplies and specimens
- Safely transports passengers and supplies between assigned locations
- Performs duties in a cost effective manner and communicates wasteful practices
- Assists with special assignments and projects
- Represents NorthShore and provides routine explanation of service to users
