As one of the largest U.S. suppliers of safety products and a leading supplier of ammonia products and process chemicals, Airgas operates with a strong emphasis on safety, customer success, sustainability, and innovation. With a diverse team of 18,000 associates, Airgas encourages initiative, idea sharing, and empowered decision-making within a supportive workplace culture. The company prides itself on inclusivity and diversity, fostering an environment where employees from a multitude of backgrounds can contribute to its ongoing growth and success. Airgas is committed to creating a workplace that honors and values these differences, which strengthens its ability to innovate and maintain its leadership in the industry.
The Counter Sales Representative role at Airgas in San Jose, CA, is an inside sales position focused on delivering exceptional customer service and supporting operational activities within a fast-paced, industrial environment. This role requires interaction with customers over the phone, by email, and in person, providing expert guidance on industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding equipment, and other supplies essential for customer projects. The representative advises customers on the best tools and materials, demonstrating equipment use and sharing product knowledge to help clients achieve effective and innovative solutions.
The position offers a competitive hourly wage of $26 to $28.50, complemented by bonus opportunities and a typical work week of Monday through Friday with no weekend shifts. Employees receive personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety on the job and begin earning benefits after just 30 days of employment. Airgas provides a comprehensive benefits package supporting the overall wellbeing of its employees, including medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and disability insurance. Additional benefits include a 14-week paid childbirth benefit to support families, a 401(k) retirement plan with company match, tuition assistance, paid holidays, vacation, and sick time. The work environment emphasizes safety adherence, clear communication, teamwork, and a positive, welcoming atmosphere that encourages growth and development.
As a Counter Sales Representative, the successful candidate is responsible for ensuring all paperwork and transactions are accurately handled, managing order entry, coordinating deliveries, and facilitating stock management including cylinder movement and showroom displays. The role contributes to the branch's growth by supporting outreach strategies and maintaining excellent relationships with customers, vendors, and colleagues alike. Occasional overtime is expected when needed.
Airgas values employees with at least a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of two years of experience in product, warehouse, or sales settings. The company appreciates candidates who bring a unique combination of education and life experience, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment. Experience in industrial retail, inside sales, or inventory control is highly advantageous. Familiarity with SAP, PROS, Google, and MS Office applications adds further value to applicants. The role is drug-free, emphasizing safety and professionalism throughout the organization.
Joining Airgas means becoming part of a global company under the Air Liquide umbrella, which operates in 60 countries with approximately 66,500 employees worldwide, serving over 4 million customers and patients. This international reach supports a stimulating career path where employees can make meaningful contributions while growing personally and professionally in an engaging work culture.
