The Counter Sales Associate position based in the Bronx, NY is a vital role within Airgas's retail operations. This hourly role, at $26 per hour with a Monday through Friday schedule and no weekend work, offers a balanced work-life scenario alongside comprehensive benefits. The associate plays an essential role in delivering exceptional customer service to both internal and external partners by providing industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding equipment, and other essential supplies. The position requires a strong commitment to safety in alignment with company procedures and OSHA regulations.

This role involves collaborating on inventory care, supporting branch operations, and maintaining smooth transaction processes while building long-term customer relationships. The Counter Sales Associate serves as a trusted advisor, guiding customers on selecting the right products and demonstrating equipment use to enhance customer confidence and project success. This job also includes responsibilities such as ensuring accuracy in paperwork related to coding, costing, and pricing, coordinating communications via phone, email, and in-person, and contributing to customer outreach strategies.

Job Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous product, warehouse and/or sales related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong multitasking abilities
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Proven track record of punctuality
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of previous product, warehouse and/or sales related experience and/or training (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • Strong background in the gas, welding, and safety supply industry with retail experience is a plus
  • Intermediate knowledge of Google and/or MS Office applications
  • Willingness to learn and live by Airgas safety programs, OSHA, and all related rules, regulations, and procedures applicable to the position's responsibilities

Job Duties

  • Champion a culture of safety by following group guidelines including safety and the use of personal protective equipment to ensure a secure and supportive environment for everyone
  • Embrace and align with Airgas Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and AOSs to ensure a safe and supportive workplace for everyone
  • Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external partners, fostering understanding and long-term relationships
  • Ensure all required paperwork is accurately completed, including coding, costing, and pricing
  • Partner with customers to identify the most effective and appropriate solutions for their specific tasks

  • Collaborate on order entry and processes transactions
  • support the team with the smooth reconciliation of deposits
  • Coordinate via phone, e-mail, and in-person with customers and team members to provide helpful information on costs and delivery

  • Coordinate the transfer of merchandise between locations to meet customer needs
  • Nurture a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a supportive and collaborative manner with customers, vendors, and colleagues
  • Stock shelves and maintain welcoming showroom displays to provide an excellent, inviting customer experience
  • Collaborate on cylinder movement and pallet organization
