The role for which we are hiring is a Deli Service Counter Associate. This position is pivotal to the store's operations as it directly impacts the customer’s shopping experience and satisfaction. The associate must provide friendly and professional customer service consistent with the store’s Customer Service Standards. The position involves managing multiple stations including the hot and cold cases, sandwich station, bakery, and juice bar. The role requires flexibility to work various shifts such as opening, mid-day, or closing to ensure smooth operations throughout the day. The associate must effectively prepare, portion, present, and package food products to meet customer requests while minimizing food waste and shrinkage, ultimately maximizing sales. Maintaining the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of the work area is crucial and must comply with the Health Department’s regulations.

In addition to frontline customer service responsibilities, the associate will manage the appearance and quality of food products in display cases, ensuring that all items are fresh, appealing, and properly stocked by store opening and continuously throughout the day. Equipment operation and sanitation are included duties to maintain a safe working environment. Teamwork is essential, as the associate works closely with kitchen staff and fellow deli employees to meet shared departmental and store-wide goals. The role requires excellent communication skills and a strong adherence to all deli and store policies including dress code and safety standards.

This full-time position demands physical endurance including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for extended periods, and the ability to perform repetitive motions. The work environment may involve varying temperatures and the safe use of kitchen machinery and sharp instruments. The ideal candidate is outgoing, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously, and resilient under stress. Completion of a Food Handler’s Certificate within 10 days of employment is mandatory, ensuring all associates are knowledgeable about safe food handling practices. Job Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs throughout any assigned shift unassisted
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to climb and balance on a step stool/ladder
  • Ability to stoop, kneel and crouch
  • Ability to sustain repetitive arm and hand motion
  • Ability to work under a variety of conditions and temperatures, wet and dry, for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work safely around kitchen machinery and sharp knives

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and follow Department of Health regulations and needs to complete Food Handler’s Certificate within 10 days of employment
  • Understand the importance of the handling of allergen containing products

Job Duties

  • Proactively assist customers within the guidelines outlined in our Customer Service Standards
  • Effectively work any station on the service counter (hot case, cold case, sandwich station, bakery, juice bar), and any shift (opening, mid, closing)
  • Set-up cold case by store opening and then reset/refresh it by 5:00 pm maintain proper case set up throughout the day
  • Effectively portion, present, and package merchandise according to customers’ requests and in a way that minimizes shrink and maximize sales
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of the products you are selling/serving
  • Maintain a clean, appealing, and sanitary work area in accordance with Health Department regulations
  • Operate and sanitize all Deli equipment in a safe and proper manner
