Job Description

The State of New Hampshire's Department of Business and Economic Affairs, specifically through its Bureau of Visitor Services, plays a pivotal role in promoting tourism and economic development within the state. This governmental department focuses on supporting and enhancing New Hampshire's business environment while delivering valuable services to residents and visitors alike. The Bureau of Visitor Services operates various welcome and information centers, including the Hooksett Welcome and Information Center, dedicated to assisting tourists and representing the state in a professional and hospitable manner. These centers are gateways for visitors seeking information about New Hampshire's vast cultural, recreational, and natural attractions, serving as vital touchpoints that influence visitor experiences and satisfaction.

The Hooksett Welcome and Information Center is currently seeking a part-time Counter Clerk III to join its team. This position offers an hourly wage ranging from $15.93 to $20.80, reflecting the importance and responsibility associated with the role. The Counter Clerk III will function as an essential frontline representative for both the Bureau of Visitor Services and the broader Department of Business and Economic Affairs. This individual is entrusted with the responsibility of creating a warm, welcoming environment for visitors, embodying the mission and goals of the department to enhance public interaction and promote the state's tourism and economic interests.

In this role, the Counter Clerk III acts as a visitor information counselor, providing accurate and detailed responses to inquiries related to New Hampshire's tourism regions, attractions, history, government, current events, and travel logistics, including highway routing. The role requires delivering exceptional customer service consistently, with a strong emphasis on actively and creatively promoting New Hampshire’s businesses, natural resources, activities, transportation options, dining establishments, and accommodation providers. The clerk ensures that the visitor center remains well-stocked with up-to-date travel publications and brochures, all displayed attractively to capture visitor interest and facilitate easy access to information.

Beyond managing informational resources, the Counter Clerk III handles inquiries via multiple communication channels such as in-person visits, email, and telephone calls. This may involve reaching out to local businesses to assist visitors with questions or making reservations on their behalf, effectively providing concierge-style services to travelers. Additional duties include maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the visitor center by performing simple housekeeping tasks like dusting racks and counters and ensuring the environment remains inviting.

The position also entails supporting the Division of Travel and Tourism Development’s marketing efforts by communicating the State's marketing campaign messages through these frontline visitor centers. The clerk must be proactive in summoning aid during highway or personal emergencies faced by visitors, underscoring the role's importance in visitor safety and support. This position is uniquely suited for individuals who enjoy engaging with the public, relish meeting new people, and take pride in being an ambassador for the state’s tourism and cultural heritage. The role promises an enriching work environment at the intersection of public service and tourism development with opportunities for further career advancement within the state’s employment structure.
