Job Requirements

  • background investigation clearance prior to hire
  • medical clearance prior to hire
  • pass the Correctional Supervising Cook examination
  • experience in supervisory capacity over cooks and food service workers or equivalent state service experience
  • education equivalent to completion of twelfth grade

Job Qualifications

  • equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade
  • one year of experience performing duties of a Cook Specialist II (Correctional Facility) or two years of supervisory experience over cooks and food service workers
  • ability to supervise and train staff
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • familiarity with correctional facility dietary requirements
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to maintain order and safety

Job Duties

  • supervise and train staff and inmate-workers responsible for meal preparation
  • oversee preparation and dispensing of therapeutic diets per physician orders
  • ensure compliance with departmental and institutional policies and procedures
  • supervise cleaning and sanitation of kitchen facility and equipment
  • maintain order and supervise conduct of inmates
  • protect and maintain safety of persons and property
  • assist in managing food service operations
