Job Description

The Arab American National Museum (AANM) is a premier cultural institution dedicated to preserving, presenting, and promoting the rich heritage, culture, and history of Arab Americans. Located in East Dearborn, Michigan, the museum serves as a vital educational and cultural landmark that fosters understanding and appreciation for the Arab American community's contributions to American society. The AANM offers a variety of public programs, exhibits, and educational initiatives designed to engage diverse audiences ranging from local residents to visitors from across the country. With a strong focus on community involvement and cultural dialogue, the museum acts as a gateway for exploring and learning about the Arab American experience through immersive and dynamic programming. As a full-time employer, AANM emphasizes inclusive hiring and professional development opportunities for its staff while offering a collaborative workplace dedicated to cultural enrichment and public engagement.

The role of Coordinator, Public Programming, is crucial in ensuring the successful planning, coordination, and execution of AANM's diverse public programs. Reporting under limited supervision, the Coordinator manages logistics and administrative functions related to the museum's various public programming initiatives. This includes organizing complex projects such as the Neighborhood Tours program which provides guided walking tours highlighting the cultural and historical aspects of Arab American life in East Dearborn. The Coordinator works closely with museum staff, artists, speakers, vendors, volunteers, and community partners to promote cultural education and engagement. Key responsibilities involve event planning and management, including technology coordination for performances, conducting guided tours, vendor recruitment, budget monitoring, and volunteer supervision. The position demands a deep understanding of arts and humanities alongside excellent administrative skills developed through formal education or relevant experience.

This role also requires adaptability to work various hours, including evenings and weekends, to support public programming schedules. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, cultural knowledge, and an ability to engage diverse audiences effectively. The Coordinator of Public Programming helps extend the museum's reach into the community and advances the institution’s mission by fostering interactive, educational, and culturally relevant experiences. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute significantly to the preservation and celebration of Arab American heritage while gaining valuable experience in nonprofit arts administration and event management.
