Job Description
Georgia Southern University is the largest and most comprehensive higher education institution in the state of Georgia south of Atlanta. Serving over 29,500 students from across the United States and around the world, it offers nearly 150 degree programs at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Known for its Carnegie Doctoral/R2 "high research" designation, the university operates across three vibrant campuses: the Statesboro Campus, Armstrong Campus in Savannah, and Liberty Campus in Hinesville. The university is deeply embedded in the rapidly growing southeast Georgia region, home to major international corporations and critical infrastructures such as the Port of Savannah. Georgia Southern provides a dynamic environment that fosters learning, discovery, and personal growth, prioritizing hands-on learning opportunities to prepare students for successful careers.
Georgia Southern University is nationally recognized for academic excellence and innovative programs, having earned accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools along with specialized certifications from various professional bodies. The university stands out as an intellectual hub in its region, supporting the demand for skilled professionals through a student-centered approach that promotes the development of leadership and workforce skills. Its reputation is solidified by accolades such as being named one of the Best U.S. Colleges by The Wall Street Journal and inclusion in Forbes' list of "America's Best-In-State Employers" for 2025.
The Coordinator of Events at the Armstrong Campus in Savannah joins the Office of Admissions under the leadership of the Associate Director of Admissions Events and Visitation. This role is critical in planning and executing recruitment and yield events that attract prospective students and their families to the university. Responsibilities include organizing on-campus, off-campus, and virtual events such as daily visits, group tours, preview days, counselor events, scholarship interview sessions, and accepted student days. The Coordinator acts as a liaison, collaborating effectively with academic and student support departments and managing logistical aspects like booking venues, securing catering, processing contracts, and handling invoices.
In addition to event coordination, the role requires direct engagement with prospective students and families through presentations, campus tours, and walk-in assistance at the admissions office. The Coordinator is expected to provide exemplary customer service, embodying the values of service, collaboration, and excellence championed by the Division of Enrollment, Marketing and Student Success. The position provides an exciting opportunity to work in a vibrant academic environment, contribute to the university's mission, and develop professionally in event management and higher education recruitment. The employment offers a competitive wage of $24.04 per hour as a non-exempt, biweekly paid role at a respected institution committed to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity.
