The role of Dispatch Coordinator within McLane's Transportation Department is vital to ensuring the smooth operation of driver dispatch activities. This full-time position requires a Class A commercial driver's license and entails coordinating driver schedules, maintaining compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) hours of service regulations, managing transportation documentation, and communicating with drivers, customers, and internal teams. As a Dispatch Coordinator, you will be responsible for preparing daily records, managing tractor and trailer assignments, verifying vehicle roadworthiness, and providing timely reports to supervisors. Attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to adapt to changing priorities are essential to excel in this position. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Valid Class A CDL license
  • Knowledge of mainframe computer software (PeopleSoft)
  • Proficiency with Windows, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Access or similar programs preferred
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a similar function preferred
  • Strong map reading skills
  • Understanding of distribution systems and dispatch procedures
  • Effective communication skills at different organizational levels
  • Mathematical aptitude for schedule maintenance
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the position
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English effectively and safely

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • CDL
  • Knowledge of mainframe computer software (PeopleSoft) relating to record keeping/scheduling for drivers and helpers
  • Preferred experience in Windows environment and on Excel, Microsoft Word, and Access programs
  • Have 2 years in similar function (preferred)
  • Map reading abilities
  • Understanding of distribution systems
  • Ability to communicate in various methods with different levels
  • Mathematical ability for maintaining schedules
  • Understanding of dispatch issues and procedures
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English at a level sufficient to perform job-related tasks effectively and safely

Job Duties

  • Prepare daily records and memos and maintain filing system for Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports
  • Complete transportation pouches including route manifests, invoices, special customer notifications, maps and stores keys for drivers
  • Develop and update driver and helper dispatch schedule daily
  • Understand DOT hours of service and ensure driver compliance
  • Set up daily tractor/trailer assignment for drivers
  • Verify roadworthiness and keep maintenance records for tractors and trailers
  • Call customers to inform them of variances in delivery times
  • Expedite driver manifests and highlight keys
  • Provide timely reports to immediate supervisor as requested
  • Possess very strong interpersonal skills and be able to discuss dispatch issues with Driver Specialists, Customers and managers
  • Meet this position's physical demands
