The role of Coordinator, Culinary Arts & Events is a full-time, hourly, and non-exempt position based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It operates on an event-based schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays, necessitating flexibility and dedication. This role is vital in managing the intersection of client experience, culinary execution, and event operations at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. The Coordinator is responsible for owning client relationships from post-sale through to event execution, providing leadership for planning meetings, tastings, and final walkthroughs. They guide clients on tailored menus, event layouts, and the overall experience to ensure seamless coordination and customer satisfaction.
In collaboration with culinary and catering teams, the Coordinator plans menus and beverage packages, aligns bar services and event upgrades, translating client selections into executable kitchen and service plans. They actively identify opportunities for enhancing menus, beverages, and service options while supporting sales goals related to assigned events. Managing logistical aspects such as rentals, timelines, layouts, event documentation, and ensuring spaces are perfectly prepared for service and guest arrival are key responsibilities. On the day of events, the Coordinator leads on-site operations by directing service flow, event teams, and providing hands-on support as needed. They also manage event close-outs, payments, and conduct post-event follow-ups to maintain quality standards and client satisfaction.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1+ year of experience in hospitality, catering, events, or food and beverage
- Experience in client-facing event planning or service coordination preferred
- Strong understanding of food and beverage service or catering operations
- Ability to manage multiple events while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent communication and guest service skills
- Comfort working in fast-paced, high-touch hospitality environments
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate degree in Hospitality, Event Management, or related field preferred
- 1+ year of experience in hospitality, catering, events, or food and beverage
- Experience in client-facing event planning or service coordination preferred
- Strong understanding of food and beverage service or catering operations
- Excellent communication and guest service skills
- Comfort working in fast-paced, high-touch hospitality environments
- Ability to manage multiple events while maintaining attention to detail
- Familiarity with event systems such as TripleSeat or similar preferred
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred
Job Duties
- Serve as primary contact from post-sale through event execution
- Lead planning meetings, tastings, and final walkthroughs
- Guide clients on menus, layouts, and overall event experience
- Partner with culinary and catering teams to plan menus and service
- Coordinate beverage packages, bar service, and event upgrades
- Translate client selections into clear kitchen and bar execution plans
- Identify opportunities for menu, beverage, and service upgrades
- Recommend enhancements that elevate the guest experience
- Support individual sales goals tied to assigned events
- Oversee rentals, layouts, and event setup accuracy
- Coordinate timelines, documentation, and cross-team communication
- Ensure spaces are fully prepared for service and guest arrival
- Serve as on-site lead, directing service flow and event teams
- Provide hands-on support during service when needed
- Manage event close-out, payments, and post-event follow-up
