As the operator of DUKE University concessions and premium hospitality services, Proof of the Pudding is currently seeking dedicated Cook(s)/Line Cook(s) to join their culinary team on a part-time basis. This role is essential in supporting the culinary department during game day preparations and food service operations for DUKE University athletic events and training tables. The Cook/Line Cook will be responsible for executing various culinary tasks to ensure smooth food preparation and delivery during sporting events. The role involves preparing ingredients, following detailed preparation lists, contributing to meal production, and maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation. The busy and energetic atmosphere of game days requires team members to be flexible and proactive, as well as skilled in executing dishes efficiently and accurately. Given the position's part-time nature, work schedules are dictated by athletic events, creating unique and occasionally irregular working hours.

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 1 year of kitchen experience, with catering experience viewed favorably. Educationally, a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, and applicants should be ServSafe certified or willing to undergo certification training. Physical stamina and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds are vital due to the demands of moving throughout event spaces and handling various kitchen tasks. The position requires adherence to company uniform standards, including non-slip shoes, and a commitment to safety, cleanliness, and team collaboration.

Job Requirements

  • 1+ year of experience working in a kitchen
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Live within or near Durham NC
  • ServSafe certified or available to receive training
  • Capable of producing a consistent product in a timely manner
  • Excellent listening and communication skills
  • Understanding of food safety practices including TCS temperature logs and cleaning sanitizing
  • Planning and multi-tasking
  • Self-motivated with a high energy level and strong verbal communication
  • Availability to work all home football games

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Setting up and sanitizing workstations
  • Following prep lists created by lead culinary
  • Measuring ingredients and seasonings
  • Preparing cooking ingredients such as soup stock
  • Preparing simple dishes as directed by the Executive Chef
  • Ensuring all food items are properly stored and easily accessible
  • Assisting chefs in preparing food and attending to any culinary tasks that arise
  • Supervising food and cooling room temperatures
  • Accepting or rejecting ingredients from suppliers
  • Maintaining a clean orderly and sanitized kitchen
  • Maintaining the highest level of food quality with your culinary team
  • Ensure proper safety and sanitation of all kitchen food service areas
  • Running food on game-days
  • Perform other duties as assigned
