Job Description

Lizard's Thicket is a cherished family-owned restaurant franchise that has been serving authentic southern home-cooked meals since its inception in 1977. Founded by Bob and Anna Williams in Columbia, South Carolina, the original location was a cozy home on Broad River Road, where Anna's treasured family recipes quickly became the cornerstone of a beloved dining experience. Over the past four decades, Lizard's Thicket has grown steadily to encompass 15 locations and employs over 700 team members, all dedicated to continuing the tradition of comforting, hearty, southern cuisine and fostering a warm, welcoming atmosphere for families and friends alike. Still owned and operated by the Williams family descendants, the company values the importance of community, family, and quality food. Lizard's Thicket is recognized not only for its delicious menu but also for its commitment to the well-being and satisfaction of both customers and employees, offering competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package.

The role of Breakfast Cook / Short-Order Cook at Lizard's Thicket is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about food preparation and customer service who thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment. This position is available on a full-time or part-time basis, working primarily morning shifts, typically starting around 5 a.m. and lasting 8 to 10 hours, which allows for an early finish and leaves the rest of the day open. The cook is responsible for preparing traditional breakfast dishes using a variety of kitchen equipment, including grills, ovens, waffle irons, toasters, and fryers following the company’s recipe manual to ensure consistency and quality. The role requires efficiency and attention to detail, especially during busy service times when hundreds of meals can be prepared and cooked to order.

This position demands someone who can handle the pressures of a dynamic kitchen, maintain sanitary food-handling standards, and contribute positively to the team atmosphere. Customer satisfaction is the top priority, so the ideal candidate must be a customer service rock star who enjoys working with others and meeting high expectations for food quality and presentation. Lizard's Thicket fosters an environment where employees’ contributions are recognized and rewarded, offering robust benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a free $15,000 life insurance policy after a short waiting period, paid vacation or paid time off, and additional perks such as an employee discount on Verizon Wireless plans, meal discounts, referral bonuses, and opportunities for performance-based pay increases. Furthermore, the company provides flexible pay options such as daily pay, accommodating the financial needs of both full-time and part-time staff.

Joining Lizard's Thicket as a Breakfast Cook / Short-Order Cook means becoming a part of a legacy grounded in family values, quality food, and exceptional service. This role is perfect for those who take pride in their cooking skills, work well under pressure, and want to contribute to a respected local dining institution. If you are someone who is dependable, flexible, communicative, and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team, this job offers a supportive and rewarding environment that values your time and dedication. Whether you are starting your career or have previous cooking experience, Lizard's Thicket welcomes applicants eager to grow, learn, and deliver outstanding southern cuisine to happy customers.
