The Cook Assistant role at the YMCA of Greater Louisville is pivotal in ensuring children and youth receive nutritious and timely meals during their participation in various programs. This position involves preparing daily meals and snacks, catering special events, and maintaining the cleanliness and safety of kitchen and storage areas. The Cook Assistant must uphold the YMCA’s mission and demonstrate behaviors reflecting a nurturing, hopeful, and welcoming nature. This role demands a combination of culinary skills, attention to detail in food safety standards, and the flexibility to support special departmental events as they arise. Ideal candidates are self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and are capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently under the dynamic environment typical of youth programs. The position operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 12:30 pm, with some schedule variations based on organizational needs. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Possess a high school diploma
- Have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Be insurable by the YMCA of Greater Louisville
- Demonstrate commitment to YMCA mission and philosophy
- Exhibit excellent communication skills
- Show ability to multi-task and handle changes in priorities
- Possess experience in food service
- Be self-motivated
- Maintain Board of Health Food Service Certification
- Uphold a positive and cooperative attitude
Job Qualifications

- Experience in food service background
Job Duties
- Uphold the mission of the YMCA and demonstrate nurturing and welcoming behaviors
- Prepare lunch and snacks for children and youth in the program
- Prepare and cater meals for special events
- Complete daily temperature recordings of food service equipment and storage area
- Stock food items and maintain storage areas in a clean and orderly manner meeting health department and supervisor standards
- Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and operation of kitchen, dining room, and storage equipment
- Secure all food service utensils, equipment, and chemicals that could be harmful
- Maintain a tidy, safe, and neat kitchen and storage areas
- Obtain and maintain Board of Health Food Service Certification
- Provide prompt and consistent service of meals and snacks daily
- Be flexible to schedule changes for special departmental events
