With a storied legacy of dedication to service and community enrichment, the YMCA of Greater Louisville continuously strives to create environments where individuals and families can thrive. By integrating visionary programming with dedicated leadership and compassionate outreach, the YMCA ensures that every participant's experience promotes holistic well-being of spirit, mind, and body.

The position of Cook Assistant at the YMCA of Greater Louisville is integral to the daily success of the youth programs. This role primarily involves preparing nutritious meals and snacks for children and youth, ensuring adherence to the menu and nutritional guidelines to support the health and development of program participants. In addition to routine food preparation, the Cook Assistant will cater meals for special events, maintain cleanliness and sanitation in food storage and preparation areas, and uphold the highest safety standards in compliance with health department regulations. Equipped with a Board of Health Food Service Certification, the ideal candidate will demonstrate unwavering commitment to the YMCA’s mission, showing a nurturing and welcoming nature that reflects the organization’s values.

Working within a dynamic environment, the Cook Assistant must be flexible in scheduling to accommodate special departmental events that occasionally require working evenings or weekends. This part-time position typically requires 15-20 hours weekly, with shifts primarily from 10am to 5pm, including some nights until 7:15pm and occasional weekends. Beyond culinary duties, the Cook Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and orderly kitchen and storage space, securing utensils and chemicals that could pose hazards, and ensuring consistent meal service. The person in this role must be self-motivated, possess strong communication skills, and be capable of multitasking while managing frequent interruptions. The YMCA environment thrives on collaboration; therefore, the Cook Assistant must exhibit a positive attitude and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
